La Gloria Cubana, Corona Gorda Review
Here is a rating on a La Gloria. Enjoy.
STORAGE CONDITIONS: These have been sitting in a Daniel Marshall fine humidor since they were purchased at about 68 percent humidity. TASTING NOTES: This rather plain-looking cigar has a light-colored natural wrapper that is smooth and silky to touch. The aroma of the “capa” is very pleasing and exhibited notes of raw nuts and wet hay. The cigar is firm near the top but a bit soft at the foot. After trimming it, I take a few dry puffs and it seems to have a nice draw. I note a spiciness to the flavor of the tobacco at my tongue. So without further adieu, I lit up. I made a rookie mistake on trimming this thing. I didn’t apply enough down-pressure on the guillotine as I trimmed it and the blade pulled the entire cap off (it’s been a long day). Damn! It’s just like someone cutting the waistband on your underwear. I’ll have to keep it together with plenty of spit. The lighting was uneventful. You have to be careful when lighting cigars with wrappers that are silky and light. They are easily scorched and you need patience when toasting the end. At least I got that right. From the first few puffs I could tell this bad dog was going to have big teeth. The body and flavor are medium full. My stomach acids start pumping in anticipation and I subdue my initial desire to take some Zantac. Instead I choose something to cleanse my palate of the full flavors and body: a Laphroaig 15 year single malt. The ash splits at the end and I know it won’t hold so I gently tap it off in my ash tray. La Gloria Cubana’s have a trait of being very full and even bitter cigars in their youth. However, the nearly 6 months of aging in my humi have dealt nicely with that characteristic. This stogie was medium full from start to finish. By the last two inches of the smoke, I was started to get weak-kneed, and I was sitting down. Not terribly complex, yet a very enjoyable cigar for those who like a cigar that packs a punch. This is a no brainer cigar as an everyday smoke for those who want a reasonably priced full body smoke. This stogie scored an 87.7 on the Stogie Fresh Rating Scale. Re: La Gloria Cubana, Corona Gorda
Nice review. This same cigar was my favorite for a long time. I've seen others say they find it one dimensional. I suppose it's not the most complex smoke in the world. I just find it to be a real nice "everyday" kind of smoke and after shopping around, they can be had for very reasonable prices per stick.
