bahia gold label churchill Review
I'm going to try my best to review this cigar, but i don't know how well this review will turn out.
First impressions- The cigar itself (before light up) smelled funky. Haven't ever really smelt a cigar similar to this, just smelt kinda strange so I wasn't sure how it would be. Clipped it and predraw left me with a good impression- the pre draw itself was sweet and peppery. Light up- First impressions change again- not sure what to think. There is something with this cigar that tastes familiar but i just can't put my finger on it. For the first fourth of the cigar there are actually quite a few things going on. A little bit of peppery spice here, a dash of creaminess there, a little vegetal/grassy taste put in the mix in spots (wasn't overpowering so i enjoyed it). It's almost like this cigar can't decide what it wants to be, and there is still something about it that i can't place my finger on. At half way point the tones/nuances become more prominent. Around this time all the tones and nuances kind of merge into one if you will. The pepper and creaminess being the most dominant, with the grassy taste lying underneath. Finally at the end of the first half i put my finger on it. This thing sort of tastes, and smells for that matter like a cuban cigar. (but more on that later) For the last half of this baby- the peppery spice changed more so into a nutmegish/cinnamon esque tone which i enjoyed very much. The aroma smelled a tad bit like cinnamon as well. Grassy/vegetal taste gone, replaced with a nice honest tobacco taste. Now on to the mystery tone- the cuban esque twang as i've come to call it. Being the newbie i am when it comes to havanas, you might have been able to take the band off this cigar and call it a "whatever" and i may have never known the difference. The smell of this cigar more so than anything, sometimes the taste just kept telling my brain cuban cuban cuban. My brain also kept saying, man this is good. Another thing that made this cigar resemble a cuban cigar was the aftertaste. It didn't have a metallic, or harsh aftertaste like a lot of nc's i've tried. Just a nice honest sweet tasting tobacco. Lastly this cigar resembled a cuban cigar because of the strong finish. Throughout the course of the cigar it kept getting fuller, but never harsh and never too strong for the palate, just more full flavored. Call me what you will, but that is just what i experienced. If i'm ever asked the question "well are there an nc cigars that taste somewhat close to cuban?" I'll respond- If you want a cuban cigar, smoke a cuban cigar... But if you want something that is close, and just feel like giving it a whirl Go for the Bahia Gold line.
