Cabaiguan Maduro 46 Review

So last Saturday on my way to the office, I stop by the B&M in the city where they had the La Riqueza and Cabaiguan Maduro in stock. Being susceptible to the Pete Johnson marketing (and the fact that I like that Tatuajes that I have tried so far), I picked 2 of each up. First up is the Cab Maduro.

Pre-light: The cigar has a nice construction and felt heavy in the hand. I cut the head and took a puff, already noting that the draw was tough. Ok, cut a little bit more off.

First Third: I lit the cigar up and it started to go a little nutty on me, and I don't mean taste. There was a small gap that lit WAY faster than the rest. It evened out after I let the cigar sit for a minute, but it was odd nonetheless. The draw was a little tough, but there was some nice flavors. Cocoa

Second Third: The cigar's taste started to improve with strong cocoa flavors. Almost reminded me of a Padron 1964 maduro, but again, the draw was rough and the amount of smoke I was getting for the work my lungs were doing was not in my favor. Still, the flavor was nice so I stuck with it.

Final Third: Off and on draw problems, when I could get a nice mouthful of smoke, it tasted great, black cherry with a little bit of spice in the back of the throat. I kept going hoping for more, but alas, it lasted maybe a couple minutes. Then while talking on CS chat, it died .. So I relit, got a nice cherry going, sit back and get a couple more puffs in. However, once again, the cigar went out. There wasn't much left, but I didn't feel like working on it anymore at that point.

Overall: Good tasting after dinner smoke. However, the draw problems throughout and the burn problems at the end were a real downer. I probably should have dry boxed it, but I don't usually drybox my smokes and have never had a problem when I take them straight from the vino.

Taste: 8
Burn: 6
Draw: 7
Value: 7
Overall: 7

Re: Cabaiguan Maduro 46

Thanks for the review... sorry about the burn problems. Maybe the next one will be better after you rest it. Sometimes B&M's love to keep the humidity pretty high.

I hope I get to try one of these soon. Should be tasty.

Thanks for the fantastic review with great pictures. I'm a big fan of the Guapos, and I'm hankering to get my hands on the Maddies.

Re: Cabaiguan Maduro 46

I smoked one of these over the weekend, and it burned good. I have seen Cab's draw tough before though -- sorry about your luck. You should let them rest for a week or two, and I think you'd see some improvement. I have the best luck with these cigars when they stay below 65% as well.

Nice review!
