Arganese Nicaraguan Presidente Review
Here goes my first review, please excuse the length:
I decided to fire up a cigar in preparation for a long drive home after a wedding tonight. I had brought a couple smokes with me, a Padron Londres, a Padilla '32 and an Arganese Nicaraguan Presidente. I choose the Arganese and had an interesting expirence. I had been looking to try the Arganese line for something now and after a bit of seaching I found a B&M that carries them. I decided on the Presidente because it is billed as the fullest & most complex of the lot. The Nicaraguan Pres. was a robusto size and looked to be the standard 5 x 50. I have no real impressions pre-light as I wasn't intending to review anything. It was a solid cigar, cut easily and had a great draw. This cigar lit very quick and produced a lot of smoke. I was suprised with how intense the first few puffs were. It wasn't the overt Pepin pepper beginning, but it was a strong/harsh start. Actually the first third reminded me of a harsher Sancho Panza or 5 Vegas A, with a long finish that hit the back of the throat. Time for a purge. As it moved to the second third I picked up a leathery change and then to the oddest taste that I have ever gotten from a cigar that I can only describe as melted butter & meat. Mind you I've only been smoking for 3 years, but I found this taste pleasantly odd. Sadly, that disappeared a few puffs later and the leather/tobacco taste picked up. As the second third ended a floral taste came into play and the cigar totally smoothed out. I purged the cigar again and the last third countinued smooth with the floral notes now all but ended and replaced by a cocca/black coffee taste with a much shorter finish. These tastes stayed until it was nubbed. I will mention that the burn of the cigar was a bit uneven and the ash was flaky, but that's never been an issue to me. I have to say that although the first third wasn't my thing, the last 2/3 really suprised me. I usually can pick out 3 taste changes when smoking "complex" cigars, but this guy had 4 or 5 distinct tastes to it. Coupled with the change in finish it was like smoking 2 different cigars. I would love to smoke a churchill size (not sure if they even produce that size) just to see what other tastes may appear in a longer cigar. I know I will be sampling more Arganese cigars in the future. Thanks for reading. |
