Thumbs up Review: Taboo Twist Churchill

Cigar: Taboo Twist Churchill

Size: 7 X 50

Appearance/Construction: A very attractive barber pole with a good solid feel, firmly springy, not soft or spongy.

Where: On the patio 80° and 71% humidity, so it feels like 82°. Very light breeze from NNE at 8 mph.

Drink: Coffee, sweetened with raw sugar and creamer.

Prelight Aroma, Draw and Taste: Sweet and mildly spicy tobacco aroma and taste and an excellent draw.

Light: Tiger butane.

First Impressions: Mmmmm. Fairly spicy at first but nowhere near overwhelmiing, with hints of nutty tastes in it's thick and plentiful white smoke.

First third: I like the taste of the other Taboo Twists from start to nub and so far this one is no different. Just after the first inch, about when the first ash drops, I get a caramel taste that shifts back and forth with a toasty nutty flavor. For me, this cigars just gets better and better as I smoke.

Second third: Here the cigar began to develope a richer spicier flavor at first. But then it shifted again and I started picking up a nutmeg like flavor and a sweet bread or grain-like taste like that of a naturally sweet cereal with nuts.

Final third: By this point, the flavor shifted back to a stronger spicier one with light hints of pepper and the other flavors all but faded, yielding to a fuller body with a more rich tobacco taste and a note of cedar in the fairly long finish.

Ash/Burn: Varies from white to light and dark gray and holds easily to about an inch and the burn was close to perfect, very even and consistent throughout.

Cost: $5.99. $5.50 on sale.

Final Comments: I find this cigar to have considerably complex character, especially considering it's lean to a mild/medium profile. It has a rich, flavorful and intregingly inviting aroma that is backed up by it's great taste. It gets a 10 from me.

Burn Time: Toasted the foot at 8:40 AM and completed at 10:34 AM on 6/21/2008.

How do you like your CAO ashtry? I have been wanting one but have yet to shell out the money.

A very good pairing imo.

They're $49.95 at Cigars International:

That's much better than the $125 MSRP.

Great review! Had the Robusto Twist for after dinner last night and agree with you. Currently in the process of smoking the SPO, fortunately I am not the designated driver.

I love the design concept and think it's attractive enough to be on display. From the time I first saw one, I harped on about how cool it was and how I was going to get one some how some way. So, my best friend/coworker got it for me for Chanukah a year or two ago.

The bowl is a small, so if you were to have four stogies burning at once, it would fill quickly. The letters don't fit the recesses molded into the sides and they did a sloppy job gluing them on, so they started falling off the first week. I got it in the winter and I smoke outside on the patio, I think the temp changes helped that along. I removed the ones that didn't fall off on their own. I just never bothered to clean up the glue.

CAO has a deal going at a lot of B&M's (we have it currently) where if you buy a box of either Italia Gondolas, Gold Lonsdales, Gold Maduro Robustos, or one other size I forget you get that ashtray free.

Thanks for the review.

I tried a toro and liked it. I ordered some Friday. The current deal is hard to beat.

Re: Review: Taboo Twist Churchill

I just finished my first Taboo Twist Churchill. Took a little over an hour and a half to smoke. The only issue I had was an irregular burn, almost certainly due to my lighting. If you like mild cigars, these are well worth a try.

I just finished my first Taboo Twist Churchill. It tasted like cake icing and nutmeg.

I'm giving this a 9/10

Re: Review: Taboo Twist Churchill

A little telepathy going on. I enjoyed my Twist Churchill with coffee plus sugar and cream at the same time as you. Found similar nuances and after I was done, ordered a box of these thanks to the deal Rob put on the retailer section.

Re: Review: Taboo Twist Churchill

I smoked my torpedo Twist after 2 months of dry-boxing around 60 - 65% and it is still plugged. Hard to draw. Strength was medium, but there is no ooomph factor in the the tasting flavor. Maybe I was expecting too much out of this cigar. I hope the next one will be better. Man ! It is hard nowadays to find a cigar that fits my preference.
