Edge by RP Toro Maduro Review

I was hanging out with my brother last night and while he puffed away at his LGC, I decided to try out an Edge Toro that I had picked up earlier the same day. From what I've read about it, it's supposed to be a strong, kick in the ass type cigar.
As for appearances, this cigar is built like a brick, dark, oily, and disgusting - a really beautiful cigar.
I obviously didn't age it or let it 'rest'. I bought one to try, and let it sit in my humidor from the time I got it home until I smoked it at night (few hours).
It was cold outside, and cutting it was a little difficult (cigar is very brick-like), but once I got through it, the cut was smooth.
Lighting was easy enough, and the smoke smelled weird and floral (weird b/c I've never smelled that in a cigar before). There was some initial spice that was nice, and a unique, but good, sweet floral taste (like smoking roses or something).
After about one half inch into it, the spice decided it was too cold outside and went home. What I was left with was that nice floral taste and smell, and little woodiness. There was no bad aftertaste - none of the leather or bitterness of some cigars.
This review is going to be a little short because that's pretty much how the cigar was until I finished it. The spice came back a little towards the end, but nothing to brag about. The smoke never got overly hot, even towards the end. It was a relaxing smoke, just not very interesting.
I also didn't get that strong, kick in the ass that I thought I would. There was no buzz, no spice, and no powerful smoke. Just a nice floral, woody, smoke.
The draw was pretty good, but a little loose for my taste.
The ash was excellent, a nice white/gray ash that wouldn't let go.

After that fell off, and the next pile of ash built up, I shook my hand and the damn thing refused to fall off.
Overall, it was a good cigar and a good smoke. If this is all there is to it, then I probably won't buy it again. I'd like to see what a little time in the humidor would do to it.
My brother picked up the Torpedo Maduro that he's going to let sit in his humidor a while. Maybe he'll have a better experience with his (I'm more of a torpedo person too).

Nice review. Very descriptive and I liked the photo. Great burn! I would be willing to bet that stogie will be better in 3 months, and a lot better in 6.

I just had this exact smoke last night. I've had a box for about 3 months or so, and they've only got better. I agree that they aren't really the 'kick you in your butt' type smoke they advertise them as but I really like them. Sadly I'm almost out of my box. Need to order more soon.

After smoking a few of these I find that while they have great flavor, the cigar is just so damn harsh it hurts my throat. It also has too much nicotine in my opinion to really enjoy a cigar.

I think I am officially edged out. I loved this cigar when it came out. I had a few too many. The taste is still right on, but I just don't like the smell when it burns. Almost the same way with the RP sungrown.

This doesn't really bother me as much and I like these cigars quite a lot. I bet they'll mellow a bit if you age them for a year or two though. I've got one that I've been hanging on to for six or seven months now that I'll probably smoke pretty soon to see if it's changed much.

Re: Edge by RP Toro Maduro

Thanks for the great review. I have a few of them on the way to me. I loved the RP Edge Corojo. These are great cigars and a pretty good value. THe ash did hold very firm.

Speaking of firm ask. I smoked a Fonseca last night that was suprisingly good. It was one of 5 cigars in a $5.95 grab bag at a local smoke shop. I was driving last night while I was smoking and stuck my arm out the window while going about 30-35 MPH to get the ash off. When I brought the cigar back in to take another puff, the ash was still in tact!!! THat is a firm ask.

I think I may pick up another couple of these grab bags since the Griffin's Robusto in package was just fantastic!!!

Re: Edge by RP Toro Maduro

I liked the edge maduros,
but i've kinda migrated towards the edge lite.

More of a refined, balanced flavor.
nice review.

Re: Edge by RP Toro Maduro

I picked up a couple Edge Maduro toros a few weeks ago. I found that the initial light was a little earthy, but the spice started to slowly appear after the first 1/2 inch or so. The spice continued to build untill the end. The overall flavor was rather unique and is now among my favorites (they go great with some VSOP brandy). I agree that it is not the kick in the ass smoke that is made out to be. I now have 4 more that have been sitting in the humidor for about 2 weeks.

I picked up a box of these last summer and still have a few floating in my humidor. I alway thought they were great (I prefer something strong). Great review!

Re: Edge by RP Toro Maduro

I've still got a few torpedo maduros sitting in the humi until their time comes. If you notice in my picture, there's some flowering action going on. So, I have a good feeling these are going to get pretty good in the next few months. For about 3-4 dollars a stick, it's definitely one of the better values out there.

Hey eveyrone I used the search function

anyway Ive had 3 or 4 of these sticks now and I pretty much agree. I thought it was a kick you in the ass stick untill I tried the LGC SR..
Im still pretty new to cigars but I totally enjoy this cigar. I cant really add anything to the reviews of this stick pretty much all been said except that I havent tried a stick by RP that I havent liked yet.
