Re: REO by Rocky Patel

Well, here goes nothing........

I had one of the REO Robustos and a VIBE gifted to me from an o/l merchant for a delay in an order. The REO has been sitting in humidor for around 2 weeks.

I am sitting in my truck at Costco and start the process. All experienced jungle dwellers have mercy on me....not good about describing the taste yet. I moistened the end and made my punch. The cap on this cigar was nice and smooth. The cigar to me was very smooth, not very veiny. The color on this thing was a nice dark consistent chocolate. The pre-light draw was good.....so I lit it up. I can't quite describe the initial taste, but it was good. Leaving the parking lot puffing away with lots of smoke billowing from the cracked window.

I proceeded to get on interstate and this is where it came alive to me. Lots of smoke, good draw, no burn problems. The taste was very good. The ash just kept hanging in there. When it got to the 1/2 way point the flavor was mellow but full tasting. Like I said....not too good on description yet.

Arrived home and still going. Had a nice long ash. Hopefully I did the imageshack thing right and you can see below.

In conclusion, I enjoyed it ! Of course it was free !! But if I have another chance I will buy some and put to bed for a while and then go at it again.

That's my Any commets are greatly appreciated

Andy

Re: REO by Rocky Patel

i have to agree with the people who like this cigar, i got four of them (robusto) in a sampler and thought the first two were great. the ones i had were built solid as a brick but still had a decent draw. they light up well, and there is lots of good flavors in there once you get through a little bit of it. i gave one to my buddy and he really liked it as well.

this has probably been posted elsewhere, but here's an interesting essay by mark twain in case anybody has missed it in the past:

Re: REO by Rocky Patel

Im going to play the devils avaocate here , I love just about everything R.P makes but this thing didnt do it for me , maybe it was the weird shape of it being very oblonged pressed that I could not get into it ,or maybe I was expecting to much from it, but I will give you guys this is that it was very well constructed (like all from R.P) and it had a very smooth oh so chocolatie look to it . Maybe I need to buy another and let it sit a little next time

Re: REO by Rocky Patel

Yesterday I pulled a REO/robusto out of the humi after 6 months rest and found it very flavorful, modestly spicy and an overall fine medium smoke.

Having smoked only one I would compare it somewhat to an El Rey Del Mundo - except I'd rather have the ERdM for a buck more. Contrary to other comments I didn't experience any harshness with the REO. I liked it.

Re: REO by Rocky Patel

Just smoked my first from DonWeb and the NST III. Pretty new to reviews and I don't think my palate has smoked all that many cigars in this profile.

I really liked the taste when it burned well, but it needed relights the entire time. If you gave it to a prisoner in Stalag 17, it tunneled so much he would be out in a day.

I am going to get a 5-pack because I did like it. I hope the burn problem was a fluke. In this thread I didn't see much saying there was any problems with how it smoked.

Little warm in Louisiana. Humi is 73 degrees and 66% RH. I don't think those numbers are so far off that it would cause the problem, I could be wrong. None of my other smokes in the last few weeks showed any problems due to those numbers.

Re: REO by Rocky Patel

I had one of these a while back from a NST I think. Personally, I love box press and I think this was a robusto size. I enjoyed it a lot. To be honest, I don't know why I haven't bought more. Time to head over to CBid. Damn you guys!!!

DAMN!!!!

And I already packaged up your prize winnings too. I haven't sent it out yet, but it would be such a shame to have to break it back open just to puck in some more cigars - - right?

Just kidding, despite the burn problems I had I am still going to give them another go. I did like the flavor. I am on CBID for some. If you outbid me you won't get your cigars - now I am not kidding.

Ok, you guys talking about the REO's so much today, I have to have one. And remember, when you think of the REO, don't forget the EO, as in EO Brands! They rock! I can't wait to try thier line of Pepin blends.

I also like the new REOs a lot. I have two boxes sitting in my humi! Just got the petite coronas and they are TASTY; need some time to age though to get some of the green out of em'.

Re: REO by Rocky Patel

Had my first one, a Robusto, this evening and liked it. Good, fairly smooth medium flavor, lots of smoke and good burn with one small touch-up at half way point. This one had a somewhat loose fill and burned slightly hot but overall a very nice smoke.

Re: REO by Rocky Patel

OK - now I see what some folks are talking about. I never had a bad REO until last week. It was harsh - burn my throat harsh - and tasted way off. I apologize to those I doubted. Thr last one was a real dog - not sure I'd go back for another round of that. This cigar had been sitting in my humi with the several others I'd bought early in the year. -30-
