Noob Adoption Reviews (July '08)

This months cigars are:

AF Hemmingway Best Seller
Nub Habano 356
Nub Cameroon 356
Savinelli Liga Especial
Oliva Ovation Maduro

Today I smoked the Nub Habano.

Lighting up was a little difficult, took awhile to get the whole cigar going. Once I did the taste was woody with some spice and a hint of sweetness. Burn was sort of uneven from the difficult light. As it went on much of the spice went away and was left with mainly woody flavors with the sweetness. Midway some of the spice came back, but all of a sudden I hit a spot and it got very harsh. Almost put it down but kept going. The harshness went away after a few puffs and the spicy woody flavors came back.

Overall this cigar was a 7/10. Started well but the harsh spot and the poor burn brought it down. I don't know if it was a bad stick, or if I just didnt care for the wrapper because I've had the Nub Cameroon before and it was a decent smoke (I will also be reviewing the Cameroon this month).

Good review. I really liked this stick.

Thanks for the review GHC. Its tough to know what the issue may be with this particular stick until you fire-up another Habano wrapper later on down the road. Same would hold true with the Cameroon wrapper as well...

It is a consistent part of the Habano, at least the one I had. It did get harsh for me. Was not on my list of favorites, but the goal is to send you some stuff and let you make your own decision. Good review. Enjoy the rest of the smokes.

Re: Noob Adoption Reviews (July '08)

Today's smoke was the AF Hemmingway Best Seller.

I lit the small tip and the cigar started with some coffee and cocoa flavors. The draw was tight at first but after the tip the cigar gave out lots of white smoke. The burn was uneven and had to be corrected a few times. The only thing that changed in the flavor is that the cigar picked up some spice as it went along.

Overall this cigar is an 8/10. Pretty good flavor and an all around good cigar. Only bad thing was the uneven burn.

I have yet to try these. I love the Short Stories. I will have to see. 8/10 doesn't seem to bad.

It was a good smoke. The other Hemmingways I tried had a distinct taste, but this was a little stronger.

Re: Noob Adoption Reviews (July '08)

Last night I smoked the Oliva Ovation Maduro.

Lit up and was greeted with mellow coffee flavors. Typical maduro flavors but very smooth and a little milder. Great draw, with lots of smoke. A little bit of cedar flavors in the middle and just a bit of pepper near the end of the cigar. Burn was a little uneven needing a few touchups but once to the midway point it was fine.

A good cigar I give this an 8/10. It tastes close to the same as todays Oliva maduros just a little smoother and has a little bit more of a cedar flavor.

The next smoke is the Savinelli Liga Especial.

This cigar started off with a rich nutty flavor, with some spice (more of a cinnamon like than pepper) and a hint of cedar. A little later on it gained just a hint of sweetness on the finish as well. The flavor kept the nutty core but gained strength in the spiciness. Draw and burn were good the whole way.

Overall this cigar gets a 9/10. Great flavor, smooth yet strong near the end. Good construction too.

An Oldie, but goodie. Didn't mess with this one much, but it is a good smoke. Found it right before I sent the package out to you.

Re: Noob Adoption Reviews (July '08)

The last cigar of the month is the Nub Cameroon.

Once again I had a little difficulty lighting the cigar. Once I got it going I got woody flavors with some sweet spice. Typical of most other cameroons I have smoked. The middle was sweeter with some coffee flavors. Ending was spicier and a little harsh. I had to correct the burn quite a few times.

Overall I give this a 7.5/10. It was decent tasting but the construction was not so good.

Thanks again Reggie for this months smokes.
