Review: CAO MX2 Robusto by a simpleton.

So..

I'll admit.. I don't have the required pallete for cigars yet. In fact, this was my 4th cigar in the past two weeks.. grand total of under 10 cigars for my entire lifetime.. if I'm remembering right.

I won't go into how the wrapper looked and all that, because frankly it looked like a nicely made cigar, but I couldn't comment beyond that.

I clip the cigar with my Xikar XI. I notice there's a hole almost dead center.. uh what? *boggle* I shake it off and go for my first pre-light draw.

The pre-light draw was not bad, again.. I can't taste a lot of things you other folks swear you do.

I light up the smoke.. and immediately I can tell it's not going to burn evenly. Maybe it's my lighting procedures with my 'mad tight bic'(tm).

So, yeah I was right, it's burning faster on one side than the other.. and a lot. I try to even it out with a little saliva on the fast side (yeah maybe that's not a good way to do it.. but it sorta worked).

So I'm smoking and smoking.. and it's peppery.. and that's all I taste other than what seems like 'smoke' ...

Then .. sniff..

sniff..

WTF is that smell?

Where's my dog? Did she just fart?

OMFG.. my ****ing hand smells like I just gave someone the shocker (atleast the AWE part).. or not unlike a proctologists hands after a LONG day of work....

WTF?

My hand smells like ass.. quantities of ass that nobody should have to cope with at all.

Uh.. yeah so there's my review.

In conclusion:
Ass smell on hands
Uneven burn
Not one I'd get again

You're review is very entertaining. Maybe you should stick to something a little milder, like a Connecticut Shade wrapper for a while. It'll likely elevate your smoking experience a great deal. Then gradually work your way up to the more complex smokes.

Personally I love the Mx2. I've never noticed any butt smell from my hands after smoking one. You didn't have any "finger slippage" today did ya'?

Cheers!!
Steve

You should enjoy the Cameroons just as much. Send me your address in PM and maybe I can talk the big guy into stopping by your house for Xmas.

Cheers!!

I would have to agree with Jezter, it was a great funny review, and to start with the milder stuff then in short time you want the stronger gar!

BTW, those RP Connecticuits are great!

Re: Review: CAO MX2 Robusto by a simpleton.

I have found the MX2 to have a terrible burn and a rather poor flavor.
I have never had the ass problems you had though, did you receive the cigar from someone who may secretly dislike you?

A good double wrapped maduro is the Occidental from alex bradley, workable though not perfect burn, the flavor is good - chocolately even.

Re: Review: CAO MX2 Robusto by a simpleton.

I seem to agree with Jezter here too. I like the MX2 plus most of the other CAO cigars. It sounds like yours were over humidified causing the poor burn. You might want to keep a couple in your humi at 70% or just below for a couple months and then give it another try.

I have read alot about burn problems. I have never had a burn problem with either the C or MX2. Both very enjoyable. My .

Can't say I had the same experience. The MX2 is one of my favorites. Maybe you just got a bad one, or something went wrong. In fact, I had the same reaction to an ERDM Robusto Oscuro some time ago. I tend to think it's just because when you're still developing your palate, some smells and tastes are a bit unexpected. Stick with some milder smokes until you get used to it, then try this one again.

I will second the Onyx recomendation. They make some great Maduro Cigars and have a nice sweet flavor to them. The first time I had one was in college. I had only been smokiong cigars for a couple of weeks. I wanted a cigar for that night and gave my friends a couple dollars to pick one up for me. As a joke the came back with a Onyx Churhill. The joke was on them though. They were all commenting on how good it smelled, and I told them not as good as it tastes. Sweet taste in the mouth and chocolatey as Illuminatis states. It is the Snickers Bar of Cigars!!!

I had a couple of the CAO Mx2 Robustos last week. THey were pretty peppery as you said, but I enjoyed them. I had not issues with either the burn or the draw. I could see myself having one from time to time. Might be nice after a spicy Thai meal. I would keep a few in my humidor, but do not think I would get a box.

Re: Review: CAO MX2 Robusto by a simpleton.

I have not found the MX2 or any other CAO cigar to be as you say, I like them and find them to be a good smoke . However you can find a bad smoke here and there in any make of cigar and this may be the case with the smoke you had . Now to the Onyx recomendation ,I believe Onyx to be a very good smoke and a bit milder then the MX2, I dont think you will go wrong with the Onyx line.
