I Love Anejos

Just a quick review on an Anejo 48. Haven't had one in quite some time. Damn, these are great cigars, especially with a little age on them. Very smooth, full strength, less sweet version of Opus IMO. I actually really think these are better than Opus if they have enough time to settle down and relieve any harshness (> 1 yr seems to work).

Not good at subtle flavors, but enjoying the heck out of it. Pairing nicely with a Glenlivet. I usually enjoy these with Islays, but I am starting to think they overpower them.

No pictures of the me right now, but here's the group when my wife brought them home (she's a keeper!).

Be careful with mold with them. I have found a lot tend to develop mold under the cedar. I always take mine off just for precaution. The collection looks great, and yes I love Anejos too, especially the 50s

Your right on the mold, the photo was as received. I learned (the hard way) to always strip them before putting them into the humi for storage.

Congrats on the purchase, they really do look great. I had two 50s this weekend with some other premium CC's and NCs and they were at the top of the list. Enjoy em.

Re: I Love Anejos

I've only had one, but I must say I found it a very boring smoke. It was aged and there was no harshness, just lacking in flavor to me. But that might be my anti Dominican bias coming out.

I must say it's an impressive looking collection though.

Does this happen to the cedar wrapped Opus X? I have two in the humi for a month now, should I strip the cedar?

In terms of Anejos, the maduro wrapper is more susceptible to mold, probably do to a higher sugar content.

I have not seen the same problem with opusX. Although I still remove the cedar wrap just to be safe. With that said, I have never "unwrapped" an opusX and found mold, it has happened more than once with Anejos.

OK, I will remove the cedar just in case and I appreciate the feedback!

They usually come out around Christmas time, starting the week after Thanksgiving.

If you are not familiar with Tampa Sweet Heart, they are a great place to get some at MSRP. You have to spend $25 on other stuff from their website, but it is worth it. You can buy a bundle or even accessories. I would wait a couple of weeks and then email them to ask for the "Rare Fuente" list, that should do the trick.

Otherwise, keep an eye out for www.elfumador.com - they only let you buy a couple, but the prices are pretty good. You do have to buy 6-8 other cigars to order, but you can get anything, including $2 Padron Londres (damn good cigars by the way).

Yes, keep an eye out for mold. I bought a box of sharks at the end of '05 and immediately stripped them because I heard they where prone to problems. I found some slight mold on a couple, wiped it off and immediately quarantined them. After that they were fine. I'm glad I checked because I would hate to lose a box the mold.
