Saint Luis Rey Series G Rothchilde Maduro Review

I was really disappointed in this one. It was my third attempt with one of these (once with the Belicoso and twice with the Rothchilde) over the last month, and I really wanted to like it.

This one started out with a slightly harsh, peppery taste. No big deal, as a lot of good cigars start out a little rough. By the time I was done with the first 1/3, virtually nothing had changed - no real flavor to speak of. That's okay, it'll come around by the halfway mark. No change. just past halfway, the intensity of the flavorless smoke intensified slightly, and I saw this as reason for hope. I even thought I picked up a hint of coffee and maybe cedar. It was fleeting. Shortly thereafter, I threw in the towel.

I thought maybe I had some from a bad batch, but bought them from different boxes at different times. One of them had been in my humi for about 2 months, the other 2 for about 3 weeks. I've heard that these need to "rest"; and while that may help, why go through that when there are plenty of good smokes right off the shelf? I also thought after the first time it may be my taste buds due to something I'd eaten that day, but 3 tries over time debunked that.

I know a lot of people really like these, but I'll pass for now. I might give them another shot down the road.

Re: Saint Luis Rey Series G Rothchilde Maduro

I purchased this smoke from my local B&M and let it rest about 3 days because I so badly wanted to try it. The guy at the B&M told me that they compare to the LGC Serie R (which I love) so how could this Serie G disappoint? Well it certainly failed on me as well!! There was no flavor whatsoever and whatever taste I did acquire......it lasted from beginning to end! I was very disappointed with the way in which this cigar turned out and I went back to the B&M and told him to please not compare this cigar on the same level as a LGC Serie R! He laughed, but I told him that I was serious and that the Serie R puts the Serie G to shame!!!!
