Por Larranaga Cuban Grade Review

Manufacturer: Por Larranaga
Brand: Cuban Grade
Size: Corona Gorda (5.5x44)
Wrapper: Conneticut

I was handed this stick at the start of a golf game today, so no pictures. The contruction is very good and cigar is handsome to look at. Nice smooth wrapper, no veins visible. Used my cheepo golf cutter and the cigar cut beautifully. Toasted and lit well. It is hard to break up a golf smoke into 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but I dont think it would have mattered much with this cigar. The flavor (or more precisely the LACK of flavor) was consistant from start to finish. No grassy flavor that most people report with other Por Larranaga, maybe a week hint of spice and some sweetness. The cigar is also very mild in body. The burn was excellent and straight until it went out with about 2 inches while I was on the tee (maybe 4 minutes). I did not relight and pulled something else out my bag. I would not buy this cigar but if you are handed one on a golf course, you could do a lot worse.

I score it 6/10 (although being my first review on CS this is absolutely meaningless)

Long ashes!

Nice review - not meaningless at all! Any review is a good reference regardless of the seniority of the poster

Re: Por Larranaga Cuban Grade

I bought a 5'er of these a few weeks ago on C-bid. I wansn't that impressed. However, I really believe that these needed some more age. They wrapper was so smooth that it nearly slipped out of my fingers. So, I am not going to give it a official review yet. I am going to wait another month. I really like the CC Por Laranaga Petite Corona.

Re: Por Larranaga Cuban Grade

I bought a box (20) of these off of CBID for $31 and after smoking the first one I am very pleased with my decision. With it's Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, San Andres binder and Dominican/Honduran filler this cigar wiil probably age well. I suspect that the Mexican binder is where some find the "grassy" taste but given time and the richness of the wrapper I think this will be a smoke I will return to soon.

Thanks for your review.

Re: Por Larranaga Cuban Grade

Saw this special on CI/CBid and elsewhere and wondered about them, especially with the Por Larranaga name. Thanks for the review.
