Avo Domaine Robusto Review

Ok, I had tried most of the Avo line by now - XO, Classic, Maduro, Signature. My favorite so far was the Maduro, but I also liked the other three to one degree or another. But I just had my first Domaine the other night and it really impressed me.

It started off so ephemeral that it was almost like smoking a cloud - not a good thing, as very little taste and no bite to the smoke at all. But about one inch into it, it started to get slightly sweet, just a tad, just enough so that I enjoyed it - I don't like infused/flavored sticks, but a hint of sweetness is still enjoyable. Also, it was surprising - as the taste built into the second half, it started to get peppery, then spicy.

Another noteworthy aspect was that after the first inch, it started to have a robust flavor, but not intense, and not even a hint of bitterness or harshness.

One more thing I love about this cigar is that it produces a generous amount of smoke. Anyone remember the old Hefty trash bag commercial - "Wimpy, wimpy wimpy!!!! Well, this cigar was Hefty, Hefty Hefty!!!

Burn was perfect - a almost perfect ring the entire time. Ash was solid enough to build up at least an inch or more each time I had to tap.

At only a little over $8, I highly recommend this cigar, it is a great value.
The funny thing is this was a Zino/Avo event I was at, and the rep said that Domaine is their lowest volume selller, only about 5% of Avo's sales. Too bad becuase it has become not only my favorite Avo, but one of my favorite cigars!!!

Good review cnb!! I also think the Domaine is a very worthwhile smoke, and one that ages surprisingly well. True, I only have some from 04, but they have improved since I first got the box a year ago. I think the 22s are the best Avo's I have smoked, the LE 05s next, and then the Domaines.

Thanks, I plan to buy 2-3 every few weeks when I purchase cigars en masse, and will be aging a few based on what you said.

Yet another cigar to add to my list.. Ive wanted to try a lot of the AVO line, and this just gives me reason to try it even more

Keep us updated on your aging the Domaines. Haven't tried them, myself.

Eh - What can I say. AVO Rocks! I have only had Domaine XO, Notturno and puritos just to sneak in the taste during coffee and I can´t say anything bad about these sticks. They just seem to give me that right amount of satisfaction that Trinidads usually give me. I know you cant compare one to the other, but it´s just the smooth full bodied smoke that seems to seduce me everytime, with the every so often spicy tease.
