Bauza Review

This weekend I smoked a Bauza (5.5x50)
It had a medium brown wrapper, darker than a
natural but not quite an EMS. It was smooth.

It felt firm, very light prelight straight tobacco
aroma. It had been box pressed but it had spent
some time in the humi not pressed so I think it
got a little rounder. It lighted extremely easy.
The draw was fine but very little flavor. The
wrapper wanted to burn faster than the bunch.
I had to stop and let the bunch smolder to catch
up. It did produce a good amount of smoke.

This was a fast burning cigar. I was totally done
with it in 1 hour. Usually a smoke of this size
will give 1.5 to 2 hours, because I smoke slow.
The last third finally developed some flavor but
it was still just straight tobacco. I was hoping
for more. A local shop pointed me to
it after I had done some reading about it.
The last third also started to burn correctly too.

My overall impression was this one was too mild and
tasteless to buy again. I felt that I was going through
the motions of smoking with none of the rewards. The
last supposed premium that was more of a let down was
the H. Upmann Millennium Toro. It not only had no taste
but left a bad aftertaste. Back to maduros and stronger
smokes.

RE: Bauza

Thanks rkt for the review. The only Bauza I've had that I liked was the Pyramid (5.50 x 52). Give it a try. I have about one a month and it's a nice after lunch or first-cigar-of-the-day smoke. I usually do one on a weekend as I sit down to watch a ballgame. Goes good with glorious beer.

RE: Bauza

I just smoked a pyramid, and I got the same feeling that you did, like smoking an oversized Marlboro, I won't buy another.:-(

RE: Bauza

I've smoked several boxes of Bauzas, ususally the Robusto(5.5x50) or the Casa Grande(6.75x4 and have found them a decent, mild smoke. I usually smoke the full-bodied cigars but still find them tasty. Definitely a well-made A. Fuente.

Btw, the best price I've found is at www.mikescigars.com

RE: Bauza

You should have tried some like 5 yrs ago they were great and medium strength. I still consider that box of yellow cello casa grandes my best box purchase. i think that fuente has really dropped the ball on the cigars they make for others such as bauza, sosa and the cuesta reys, which was my first handmades cigars (1884 and 95) and I can tell you they were not the rockets they are today.

Agree with Enyafan. They "used to be" very good.

RE: Bauza

Well, I guess I missed that boat. I have not purchased anymore
of them yet. I am still trying to smooke some room in my humi's.
