Ashton VSG Belicoso #1 Review

The Ashton VSG Belicoso #1 recently scored the highest in the 2005 Stogie Fresh Annual Cigar Ratings.

However, I did not have the honor of reviewing the cigar. One of my other Stogie Fresh raters did. So, I decided to give it a try, just to confirm the score don'tcha know.

All I can say is WOW! What a great smoke. This cigar definitely earned it's position at the top.

This cigar kicked my a$$, and I mean that literally. I had to go lay down for a couple hours after smoking it I was so looped. They should put a warning label on that thing that says, "Eat food before smoking, moron." Or something like that.

The wrapper was nice looking and aromatic, the construction and burn were magnificent (see photo). The flavor was woody, coffee and tobacco. If the magnetic strip on my credit card wasn't about to fall off from all my holiday purchases, I would go out and buy a box.

Hmmmmm.

My brother spoke to me about these... heīs dying to get his hands on a few. After seeing and hearing so much about these... I think Iīm going to fall into the same boat....

From the ash it looks like the stick you smoked had a superb construction. Great pic! Mustīve been a great experience!

Next time eat first.....

Re: Ashton VSG Belicoso #1

I had the PC version of the VSG and I love it. next time I'am in the States I am going to try this one with a nice wiskey. I rate these and the PAN 1964's right up there with many cubans. The problem is availablity. Iwas going to try one in Nov (home for a wedding) but the only shop I got to go to didn't have any. I did score a PAN though.

Re: Ashton VSG Belicoso #1

am i thinking about the wrong cigar? i had one of these, about a month ago, expecting great things - spicy, full bodied and more.

it was none of that. The cigar was well made, well consructed with an even burn - and QUICK! smoked way too fast and, for my tastes, way too mild! has anyone else experience this? did i somehow get a "dud"??? anyone else have a less than favorable review of this smoke?

Re: Ashton VSG Belicoso #1

The Ashton VSG line is one of my favorites. They are pretty strong, medium to full-bodied. I've got a box of the Robusto and Illusions and a handfull of Corona Gorda. All are great smokes. Nice aroma, even burn and a beautiful ash. I haven't had the Belicoso #1. I hadn't thought about finding one until I saw it mentioned here. I looked it up on CA's web site. It's rated a 93, best of the VSG line. I've gotta find a box.

Re: Ashton VSG Belicoso #1

VSG is tied for my favorite "premium" NC. The other contender is the Anejo.

I dont think you can go wrong with this cigar at all.
