Punch Rothschild Double Maduro Review
Poking thru the humi this morning looking for something on the short side to smoke on the way to work I came across this little baby and thought, well haven't ried one of these yet may as well give it a go.
A dark and oily wrapper with a satin appearance, the only thing detracting from it was one large vein which ran down its length. The cap was good and the cigar firm with that slight spring to it. The cigar clipped nicely with my Havana Cutter I put it in my mouth and tested the pre light draw which was even and not tight at all. The pre lit taste left little to be desired, there appeared to be little of interest in it at all. I began to think, oh maybe I got a dud that needed some more time in the humi. Anyway the fact that I had cut it and I was sitting in the seat of my car in the driveway I decided to put it to the torch. Initail few puffs were a little bitter and I began to think i should have put it back however this soon subsided and the flavours started to hit me. The 1st inch was like cuppacino, now cuppacino here has chocolate sprinkled on it and it wasn't that. When growing up in New Zealand we used to oget cuppacino sprinkled with cinnamon and this was the flavour I was getting. As that 1st inch came to an end the flavour shifted to a strong latte flavour. This flavour stuck for about 1.5 inches and then some woody undertones joined in as the flavour intesified towards the end. The burn was fabulous on this cigar, it burnt as straight as a die and did not alter at any point. There was also volumes of smoke to play with as the draw was perfect and the smoke emenating from the head after a draw had the aroma of fresh roasted coffee. This cigar totally surprised me considering its dubious start but seems very well worth future investigation as I thoroughly enjoyed it ![]()

Re: Punch Rothschild Double Maduro
Great review Jason! I couldn't agree more on these. They are a great smoke. So good in fact, that was my first box purchase. I might dare to say that I may prefer the HdM Double Maduro though. Either way, I still love these.

Very Nice, Jason. I've had a few of these, and they've been a little hit-and-miss. Glad to hear yours was a good one. I think further investigation is definately warranted

Re: Punch Rothschild Double Maduro
Hey down under!
Thanks for the info. I haven't tried these myself but I like what Punch has put out there this year. I have been hit or miss with there cigars for the last few years. Do you recommend getting a few to put in the humi for a bit? I love those cigars that get tasty after a few good months in the humi. Cheers Damien (yes I'm a newbie from Oregon) |

Nice review Jason, the longer you can sit on these and age them, the better they get.

I love these for a value buy. You get a great cigar to cost ratio. I do agree that letting them have a little time in the humi makes them even better.

I only have 2 of this and the 2nd one will sit a while longer to get some time on it. I'm sure this cigar will age well, from the experience I had with this one I can't wait to try the next one. The size really suits for my drive to work so a box of these might be in order sometime soon. Hope this helps ya. Cheers Jason

Re: Punch Rothschild Double Maduro
I have to agree with floydp and Danimal,I think that a 2 to 6 month stay in the humidor will make it a much better smoke.
