Neptune Oceanide Original Review

Almost 2 weeks ago I got an email from Neptune Cigars announcing a few specials. I took the bait, and ordered the "Strength Tester" - 2 each of their Oceanide, Naiade, and Titanide, 1 in the original, 1 in their "Force 2" wrapper.

Smoked the Oceanide in its "original" wrapper a couple nights ago. This is their corona size. I've read other reviews here or at Top25Cigar that the Neptune line doesn't pack much of a punch. I'll have to agree on that point, but this was not a bad smoke. The cigar was well made. Pre-light draw was just right. Lit easily, and burned evenly, right to the end. Strength-wise, I'd say it was about as strong as a Sancho Panza Caballero. Not something to curl your nose hairs, but still an enjoyable smoke. Something to relax with when you don't want something that'll knock you over. The flavor was good, earthy with maybe a hint of chocolate. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 7, maybe a 7.5. A good cigar for the money. When I light up the Force 2 version, I'll let you know how they compare.

RE: Neptune Oceanide Original

I will be intersted to hear about the difference.

I have always heard they were very mild and not much flavor.

Finally found time to sample the Force 2. It was stronger, and did have decent flavor. Not something to write home about, but, like I said before, a decent smoke for the money.

The Naiades were a different story. That's their robusto vitola. I was extremely disappointed. Both the Original and the Force 2 had no flavor to speak of. The Force 2 was definitely stronger, but still nothing in the flavor department.

I was at their website just 2 nights ago. I ordered the same deal from the website. Sounds like they're going to be just so so.

Well, they came in the mail today. Boy, what a let-down! This is a seriously one dimensional smoke! The construction and burn were good, it was an attractive cigar. But the taste was pretty much the same from start to finish. It left me wanting a cigar! Ah well, I guess they ca'nt all be great.
