Saint Luis Rey Reserva Especial Toro Review
The specs:
Saint Luis Rey Reserva Especial Toro 6x50 Manufactured: Honduras Wrapper: Nicaraguan Binder: Nicaraguan Filler: Honduran, Peruvian, Nicaraguan Price paid: $2.60 (Devil Site) Humi time: 2 mos I'd enjoyed the SLR robusto, and so I picked up a 5pk of the toros on CBid for $13. Settled in for a Friday night smoke at my local cigar haunt while I watched the Sox game. Prelight: This SLR had a beautiful colorado maduro wrapper, reddish brown with only small veins and a well-applied cap. Aroma of tobacco with hints of spice. Solid in the hand, firmly rolled, but the cold draw was just right. I could tell this was going to be a good smoke. Burn: The cigar lit easily after I toasted the foot with my torch. The burn was straight through the first ashing. After I tipped the firm ash, about an inch and a half long, there was a very slight tunneling, which I corrected easily with a touch up. The burn wobbled a little more through the middle of the cigar, but nothing serious. The draw was perfect throughout. Flavor: Medium in flavor and body, with a satisfying richness. The flavor was earthy and woodsy at the beginning, a little lighter in body to start, but it built in body and strength as the smoke progressed and the tobacco warmed up. I could taste a light sweetness on the finish throughout the smoke. By the midpoint of the cigar, the flavor filled out into a rich mellowness, with hints of cream, vanilla, maybe almond/amaretto. A really enjoyable flavor profile. When you factor in price -- under $3 a stick -- this very good cigar becomes a real winner. I don't know how SLR does it, but I'm glad they do.

Re: Saint Luis Rey Reserva Especial Toro
Awesome. I have a SLR churchill that I've really been wanting to smoke for a while now because of its color and size. It just looks delicious, but I never hear anything about these. But now I have a testimony and thus, another reason to smoke it

In this case, at least for me, looks don't lie. Hope you enjoy your SLR as much as I did!

It was damned good, I have to say. A little spicy, a bit woody, and all around enjoyable. These would be excellent gift cigars - very nice look and feel with an especially handsome band, and it delivers in flavor. They don't have to know I spent $5 on it ![]() |

Re: Saint Luis Rey Reserva Especial Toro
This was one of the smokes that started me down this slippery slope. Bought my first one a couple of months ago on a trip to Seattle. What a beauty. can't wait to pick up more. I have yet to smoke a cigar that stayed as cool as this one. Great review. Glad you liked it.
