Cuesta-Rey Centenario Pyramid No.9 Review

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Mar-23-02 AT 094 PM (CDT)]I picked up a sampler of the Cuesta-Rey Centenario Collection and stuck them in the humidor about a month ago. Tonight I tried the Pyramid No. 9.

The taste was great, as can be expected from Cuesta-Rey products. It was a medium strength smoke that was woodsy at the start and finished with coffee and cocoa flavors. There was some spice at the very finish of the smoke, but only enough to numb the tongue and lips slightly. The cocoa aftertaste lasted quite a while and was very pleasant, filling the sinuses and lingering on the taste buds.

I had some burn problems, about 10 minutes into the smoke the cigar began to burn too quickly up one side. It ran to the point of my becoming frustrated and taking the torch to the stubborn side. Once the burn was straightened out, the cigar finished beautifully. I smoked it down to the point of fearing a burn on my lips and fingers.

IMHO the cigar was a nice treat even with the burn problem. I have had a dozen or so of the Tuscany's from the Centenario line and they all smoked beautifully from start to finish, so I'm assuming that the burn problem was the result of an inconsistency in the bunching of the filler on this particular cigar. I'd still give the smoke an 85 or B+ in the rating systems. I'll probably have another of these at some point, but I personally prefer the Tuscany.

Radar,

Try the CR Cent. Maduro No. 7. Good tastey little smoke.

Thanks TAK, I will. So far I have enjoyed all the products from the Centenario line that I have tried. In fact, I've yet to have a Cuesta-Rey that I regretted smoking.

Good review rookie. I like all the Centenarios. Hint.}>
