Rocky Patel Edge Toro Corojo Review

I was in a shop last night and spotted some Rocky Ratel Edge Cigars. I was trying to decide between the Toro Corojo and the Maduro Torpedo, but settled on a couple of the Corojos since I have been smoking a lot of Maduros lately. While I there was someone in the shop sitting down and smoking a cigar, so I sat down and joined him talking about golf & cigars with him and the Owner.

It is a 52 RG by 6". I cut the cigar with a dull cutter that the shop owner lent me. I squeezed it and got about half way through before it stopped. Had to squeeze it harder and it went through. I was regretting leaving my cutter in the car. I thought I had damaged it, but when I checked it, it was OK, Wewh!! I put it in my mouth and it tasted great. It had a little spice flavor to it, slightly clovish.

After a perfect light, I was impressed by a first puff with a pleasantly peppery full bodied taste. Within an inch or so the pepperyness faded leaving a complex full bodied flavor. THis tast stayed consistant for the next few inches until the slight peppery flavor came back for the finish. The cigar was never harsh, always flavorful.

THe construction was perfect. The draw was smooth, burn perfectly true and slow. There was a firm white ash that stayed straight about 1/3 of the way down the cigar before I tapped it off. THe wrapper was smooth with no large veins and a nice coffe with cream color. No faults what so ever there!!!

Since I was not expecting to smoke a cigar at the shop, I did not have coffee or any libation to go with it. A black rich dark roast coffee would have been nice. But I could see myself smoking one of these with a hot glass of mulled wine on the back porch on a mild winter night. Or maybe with a highball of good Bourbon during the summer.

If you are a newbie to the cigar world looking for a first Full Bodied Cigar, I would put this near the top of your list. It will let you explore the world of strong full flavored cigars without any harshness.

Great review! The ash just sticks there...easy to get a 2" rock solid ash on the end.

Thanks for the review, I really like this cigar in both Corojo or Maddie.

I haven't tried the Corojo but I really like the Maduro version especially after a good meal.

I'm with you here. The Patel Edge Corojo was one of the best surprises this year. Hey, I think I'll dedicate a column on Puros y Ron (http://cigarsandbooze.blogspot.com) to that! I can't tell you how many people I know that have switched from an 8 or 10 stick to the RPEC as a mainstay. Fabulous cigar. Even better at first when they were about a dollar less per stick.

Tried the Missile? Humble opinion, it has the best flavor with the least bitterness to the tongue. And some of them hit an aroma peak that is downright Padronlike.

Thanks for the tip. I just picked on up today while I was at lunch. I may smoke it at the Boston HERF later this evening. I am looking forward to trying it, but I may hold off since I have a couple of items from the ISOM, one of which I may enjoy later. Could be a 2 or 3 cigar evening though!!!

Re: Rocky Patel Edge Toro Corojo

I had my first one of these from a fiver I picked up at Cbid. I was surprised that I found the cigar to be somewhat loosely rolled. Even with deciding on a punch cut, I found the draw to be rather looser than I prefer. Has anyone else experienced this or could this have been an anomoly? I still have the others to smoke in the future. Just curious.

I like the edge series as well. Full bodied as you said and not harsh.

Good review.

While this is a good smoke I actually prefer the Camacho Corojo to this one, try one of those if you haven't already. The maduro torp though is one of my favorites.

Re: Rocky Patel Edge Toro Corojo

I'm smoking my first RP Edge Torpedo (M) right now. I'm enjoying it so much that I thought I'd see what others have had to day.

Everything you've said in the above review is true of the maddie torpedo as well. It is beautifully constructed, the draw and burn is perfect, and the ash is tight and white.

Upon first drawing on the cigar, I sensed a sweet, spicyness that was slightly reminiscent of an Anejo. That faded away into a woody flavor which presents itself throughout the rest of the cigar.

The Edge Torpedo is a very flavorful and aromatic cigar. I am smoking the first of two which I obtained in my newbie trade. I'm going to add this to my list of regular smokes.
