Hoja Yellow Band Maduro Torpedo Review

This maduro torpedo had a very dark, toothy wrapper that seemed a little too fragile. The construction was average with a slightly uneven fill. It had a light chocolate/coffee aroma to it. The Cap looked a little rough and appeared to be a little short. I found this out after I cut the cap as the wrapper immediately started to unravel. A little judicioulsy placed spit took care of this problem. The pre-light draw was tight, almost plugged. It lit easily enough and burned fairly evenly producing a medium grey ash that was of average density. The draw remained tight producing a minimal amount of smoke with a mild to medium body. It had a faint chocolate/coffee/tobacco taste to it. All in all a forgetable cigar.

Nice review, I will try to avoid this vitola. Were you a snipe?

tbateman,

Thanks for the review. I learn just as much from a negative review as I do from a positive one.

Hi edisonbird and welcome to the Jungle. Nope not a snipe, Gunners Mate Missiles. Outside of schools and a TAD to HCU-1 waiting on her to make port, I spent my enlistment onboard USS Preble DDG-46 working on the GMLS MK10 Terrier missile system. Since you're USNA, I would imagine you were Line. Did you retire, about to retire, 6 & out?

Medically retired after two, just a Lt.

The only easy day was yesterday.

You're right. Keep the negative reviews coming. Not that I'm in favor of us dumping on every big butt out there, but I'd rather know which smokes to avoid. There are so many I have never smoked, I'd like to pass over a stinker if I can help it. Thanks for the good review of a not so good stick.

RE: Hoja Yellow Band Maduro Torpedo

Everybody needs to keep in mind that not everybody has the same opinions of the same cigars. I have tried the XXO Hoja series and at their discount price they are a great smoke. This brand was made by Don Douglas and I'm sure tastes nothing like the regular line. I do agree that bad reviews are just as important as good reviews!

My rule is to buy 2 of the same smoke from different stores or batches to make sure I didn't get a dud. The last PAMs I bought would be the last if I didn't know any better because they were the worst I had ever smoked but I can write it off asabad batch. I waited two years to try the regular Padron line because I told that they were horrible smokes. After realizing that not to listen to him I would taste everything he didn't like and found a few keeper brands I still smoke today. I worked with a guy who said Puros Indios make him sick but I do not share that opinion. I also understand when someone wouldn't give a cigar a second try because there are way too many good smokes out there to mess with the bad ones.

Hey, not everybody likes steak but I'm glad I didn't take my vegetarian sister's advice on that one!

Been there, done that and I'll do it again!:7 :7
