Review: Another look at the CAO Mx2

CAO Mx2 Toro 6x54

Decided to pull one of these out of the humi tonight for a late night smoke. I issue the disclaimer that like many other first time reviewers, I have yet to develop the complexed palate of many of you, but I do know what I like, so I guess that at least qualifies me to offer an opinion, if not an official review.

Prior to getting this out I did a search and found Mindflux's review (with all due respect) of the Mx2, see here http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthr...ght=Mx2+review this did little to encourage me , short of the various responses that most enjoyed them.

I actually found this to be a very enjoyable smoke. This was my first Maduro wrapped stick, but I think there will be more getting purchased soon. The construction seemed very solid, slightly tight to the touch. The tightness was only noticable on the draw, when trying to light it. It took a little more drawing to get the foot established and started well enough to let it rest. There was a need to relit at about the half way point, perhaps this was where the leaves were tightest packed.

I had no problem keeping a heavy mouthful of smoke through out the stick, short of the midpart discussed above. The smoke definitely had a thicker feel to it as I let it roll out, than what I'm used to. I assume this had to do with the darker leaves.

The second half seemed to burn quicker, but the cigar held ash well throughout. I think I only knocked ash off 3 times over the course of the hour and 15 minutes of smoking. In fact, I tried to knock ash off when it had burned the first 1+inch, and it held, I literally couldn't get it to fall, it started breaking at about 2+ inches, and this continued over the entire length. Nice white/gray ash.

I smoked it down to a nub, I had removed the band due to the size of it, prior to lighting (I know its horrible). I truly enjoyed this cigar, and am glad I tried a strong leaf with no ILL effects. I guess this just opens yet another door.

Thanks for reading, if you made it this far. Opinions welcome, both of the reviewer and the stick. If I have overlooked a obvious aspect of the cigar, please let me know, here or by way of PM.

Thanks again

Very nice review.

Don't worry about your pallet, I've been smoking for Decades and I can't tell all those flavor notes.

Sometimes it good enough to say, "It was a damm good smoke! I recommend it." That will get you point across.

You guys keep fluffing these MX2's. I'm going to have to try them out.

Very nice review you wrote there man. I also do not have thie pallet to pick up all those damn flavors I hear so much about. If I like it I like it, If I don't I don't.

Most of the MX2s I have smoked are always tight wrapped but never hard to draw. And not only do they look tasty they are

Good job on the review and go get more MX2s

Oh IMO try a Belicoso MX2. Great size mmmmmmmmm 7X56 Torpedo

Re: Review: Another look at the CAO Mx2

I always have a couple in my humi (no room for a box). I think it is one of the best sticks in the 4-5 dollar price range. I like most of the CAO line and love Maddies so it is a perfect fit.

Nice review.. However don't assume that just because it has a dark wrapper that it will be very strong bodied. You would miss out on some very fine smokes.

Jeff

Hey Puff - if you liked this try the Partagas Black line - very dark maduro - medium bodied tasty and smooth.

Re: Review: Another look at the CAO Mx2

Nice review!! This cigar is becoming one of my favorite CAO's. Everytime we go to the local shop, I pick up a couple. I can see a box purchase in the near future. Haven't tried a Belicoso but will if the local shop carries it.

I can seperate alot of the flavors that everyone else can either... I'm in there with the if I like it, I like it opinion. To me, it's a great cigar! A little mild for Frank but he had a La Flor Domincana this morning, so just about anything would be mild after that..LOL

Oh, Partagas Black... I remember those. I bought a box a year and a half ago without first tasting them (not too smart I know) and I was quite disappointed. Tasted like I was smoking burnt tires (little exaggeration). You definitely have to like FULL bodied smokes to appreciate them, which I don't. I traded the rest of mine to someone else a few months back.

Oh, where were we?

i agree. the third quality cigar i ever smoked was a Padron Londres (clicky) and i definatly could not handle it. i had to toss it at about the half way mark, i was starting to feel dizzy. but before i lit it, that was the best smelling cigar i've ever had. it smelled like a rich chocolate cake.

anyway, all i ever hear about the MX2's is good. I'm going to have to try one someday. Haven't seen any locally though.
