el mejor espresso Review

I will repost my rating system until everyone gets used to it.

I do a simple impression of the cigar what I liked or disliked and have a 5 point scale

1 dog rocket. This is a crappy cigar. Of course better than a machine rolled. But harsh. Fast and got burn. Bad flavor or no flavor.

2. Yard gar. This is a descent smoke but its okay to smoke it if your are working in the yard. Or don't have time to finish.

3. Good smoke. Better than a yard gar. Hate to not finish it.

4. Premiums. these are great smokes. You will want to take your time. Have it with friends really enjoy it. They will be in your top 25.

5. Super premiums. These are your top 5 cigars. They are well constructed. Burn well. Taste awesome.

Ok

El mejor espresso

This cigar seems to be a CI exclusive which explains why they pimp it so much.

This is a 1

If you've been reading my reviews you've noticed I did a 5 then 3,2, now 1. Skipped 4 because I am still thinking of what can really catch what I define as a 4. Its between about 5 cigars still

Anyway. Harsh from the start which is odd. Usually a cigar will take a while. The toro size which I got burned up in less than 30 minutes seem to always be hot. I could barely get by the harshness to try for any flavors in it. Some woody. Honestly I didn't want to finish it and I will usually give a cigar a second chance but I have the other 4 I got away and the guy asked me why I hated him so much. A fellow with a seared pallate may accept this as a yard gar but for me...

Dog rocket.

Re: el mejor espresso

Hmm, had one Monday night and it was pretty good. You have to stick these away for about six months and then all the harshness goes away. Not a great stick, but a good one for about a buck of cbid.

Same here...

I had one a few days ago that was over a month old in the humi and I liked it ok. I remember when I first got it it was a little funky smelling, but the other day when I smoked it I noticed the smell was smooth and thew flavors were good in the draw and the smoke in the air. You may have have just a bad stick, hope your next one is better.

How long was the cigar and how fast did you smoke it?

30 minutes seems like you would be smoking pretty fast for a toro of decent length. If you are smoking that fast, that may explain some of the harshness.

That said, I haven't had one of these (though I have had an emerald). Thanks for the review.

Re: el mejor espresso

If you burned through a Toro in 30 minutes either something was wrong with that cigar or you could suck a golf ball through a garden hose. No matter the quality of the leaf, tobacco shouldn't be burned that fast.

Make sure the humidity is ok and let them sit a couple more months before trying again.

Re: el mejor espresso

6-8 months in the low 60s humidity does wonders for these smokes. You gotta remember, CI/Cbid sells TONS of these cigars. So basically anytime you get some they will be "fresh".

Re: el mejor espresso

I like the flavor of these. My experience is they burned like crap but are enjoyable - not premium - but enjoyable. I agree with lower humidity and time on these to get a better smoking experience with them. Try again after some time and SLOW DOWN. You should get an hour out of a toro.

I've smoked a few bundles of these through the years. At first, I really liked them but the "glitter" wore off after awhile. They all had almost fire resistant wrappers and required constant touch-ups to catch the wrapper up with the rest of the cigar. After a touch up, the flavor was better but, as soon as the burn on the wrapper fell behind, the taste went "off".

I got tired of wasting butane on them.

Re: el mejor espresso

I wasn't huffing it down, which is one of the reasons I'm calling it a dog rocket.

Fast burn, Hot burn.

Also IMHO, if a cigar needs to sit in my humi for "awhile" then I don't need it.

I don't want to look into one of my humis and say ok which ones can i have and which ones do i need to wait on, and for how long?

Re: el mejor espresso

I understand that but you can miss out on some great smokes that way. The Padilla Obsidian comes to mind. Virtually unsmokeable fresh off the truck but 3-6 months down the road it's one of my favorite cigars. But to each his pleasure.

I just think you have to give a cigar two to three chances under a variety of circumstances to determine. After some rest in the humi or smoking on a more humid day to maybe slow and cool down the burn and you still feel the same way, to you it's a dog rocket confirmed.

You know what that right there tells me??

You have let the cigar DRY out.

a 6 inch cigar burned in 30 minutes - that would make it kindling - meaning your humidity is NONEXISTENT in your humidor.

Re: el mejor espresso

Agreed that one usually needs to give a stick a few different chances. And I may give this another shot at sometime on someone elses dime.

It was just so bad.

Re: el mejor espresso

That was a fast friggin' smoke, my friend. The fastest I've ever smoked a cigar without trying to smoke it down fast was a 7" x 52rg Churchill I smoked in just over an hour.

There's something very wrong with this picture...
