Punch Rare Corojo Review
Handmade in Honduras
Just picked a few of these up and tried the first one yesterday. It's a short cigar, maybe 4.5" with a dark wrapper. The wrapper was good, not heavily veined (which I personally don't like) and tightly wrapped. Lit well, had to be touched up once when it got uneven but no biggie. Now on to what matters! From the start the cigar was quite bitter, kind of like when a smoke is too dried out and it burns too hot (it wasn't dry at all). Maybe "green" is a better way to phrase it. Halfway through the cigar this cut down alot, but a mild ammonia flavor was there. In all, there wasn't the dark, earthy or chocolatey flavor I prefer, it was definitely a more mild/medium smoke, not a whole lot of flavor but not aweful by any means. I did finish it, which I won't do if I don't like it. The aftertaste was ok, no bitterness. If someone else has tried this, please post here your impressions, I'm still curious if this cigar was just of a different "type" or if it was bad! I'm also planning on giving the rest some time to age and see if it smoothes out the bitterness, if that and the light ammonia taste were gone it would be a different experience. --Alex |

RE: Punch Rare Corojo
Ouchie! I have yet to smoke a bad one. Corojos in general seem to be a wrapper that folks like or dislike. Alot of folks tend to dislike the Camacho corojos too. I think that is really the best thing about cigar smoking, how each person has their own individual tastes.

RE: Punch Rare Corojo
Yours may just be young or you may just have different tastes than I do. I got both the punch and camacho corojos by preordering them so I know they were the older batches. You may just need to age them if you still have any. You know how when a cigar is hot they just force them into the market ready or not.

RE: Punch Rare Corojo
Here is the review I gave it:
What a dissapointment. This puppy started off with such promise. Flavors attack you from the start. This guy starts off spicy. I mean spicy. Typical full bodied Punch. But there is a sweet undertone trying to get out. My lips were tingling for about the first 1/4. Then the spice mellows down a good bit. Unfortunately, so does the other flavors. The burn was just bad. Hard time keeping it lit, and it tunneled often. Ash was so stiff I had to knock it off. I suspect that I caused some of the harshness that it had from 1. trying to keep it from going out 2. my habit of smoking a little fast. But there was still this underlying flavor that wanted to come through. ( like smoked veggies) This is another stick that would benifit greatly from taking a 6month to a year nap in the humi. Didn't mean to write a book, but this cigar could be good, VERY GOOD, just give em time. 2.5 butts at this stage. |
