Fonseca Cubano Limitado Toro Gordo Review
This has been a great weekend, premium smokes Friday night through Sunday morning (8 in total). Sunday night I decide to dig deep into the humidor and try find something to surprise me and end the weekend off right. Out pops a Fonseca Cubano Limtado Toro Gordo. This either came in a sampler or I was gifted, cannot remeber. Stored at 68-70% and 70deg (+- 5 degs), never smoked one before.
The construction of this cigar is good. I had one noticeable vein running the length of the cigar. The wrapper is thick and this cigar was perfect coming from the bottom of the humidor probably due to this thick wrapper and tank like construction. The cigar cut perfectly, no tearing. Toasted and lit the cigar using my trusty torch. The initial few draws were harsh, very bitter, no real other flavors coming until a 1/4 inch in. The cigar mellowed a little and the dominating taste of burnt wood starting coming through. This burnt wood only taste lasted almost to half way. The cigar seemed to actually mellow the more it burnt and by halfway some peppery spice seemed to come through along with some more of the woody taste. This pretty much lasted till the end of the cigar. No nubbing this one for me. I found this cigar to be slightly bitter for my tastes, not creamy at all, no sweatness and not complex. Some pepper spice snuck in but it was overmasked by the strong dominant burnt wood taste. I would not buy this. I am not sure what Fonseca was trying to achieve with this blend, but "Cubana" it definately is not. I checked the price of these and if you have to have Fonsecas, get some 5-50 or some Vegas De Fonsecas, much better Fonsecas IMHO. Otherwise look elsewhere. |

Re: Fonseca Cubano Limitado Toro Gordo
I have tried this cigar also. I believe it is a decent cigar but could use some aging to mellow it out some. This is not your typical Fonseca cigar in that it is a rather strong, full-bodied cigar.
