La Rosa Especial Mi Favorita Review

Hello to all. I have been 'lurking' on this site for the past month and have really enjoyed getting to know you all (albeit, surrepticously) and learning alot about some great cigars. Thanks for your openness and commaraderie.

I thought I might pass along my opinion about a cigar which is a big sleeper but boy what a great cigar. It's the La Rosa Especial Mi Favorita. It is 4.75 x 52, comes in Natural and Maduro. The one I smoked this morning was the maduro. This is a great smoking cigar at an unbelievable price. The wrapper is beautifully constructed (box pressed) with a pleasant pre-light aroma. For the first inch or so, it had a spicy, cocoa blend that was very good and I could tell I was in for a full bodied smoke (just what I was looking for!). When I got down to the next 2.5-3 inches, very strong in the chocolate flavors were very apparent. But the last half inch or so, before I burned my fingers, was pure enjoyment, of complex, coffee, spice and cocoa. This cigar had a buzz factor of 4-5 for me. Just a great, pleasurable 1.5 hours of smoking.

The only negative I found was that at first it didnt burn evenly and the ash was a little jagged around the edges. What I did notice was that first inch had a light yellowish, gray tone to it. After that, the ash turned more light gray and stayed that way to the very end.

I have found that both Holts and JR's carries these cigars for a great price.

Thought I would pass this info along to anyone looking for a great cigar that pops a punch, and won't hurt your pocketbook. I look forward to anyone else's comments on this cigar to see if you have found the same.

I look forward to contributing to this great board and thanks for hearing me out.

Andrew

RE: La Rosa Especial Mi Favorita

I would have to agree with you on everything you said. I smoked one of these back in december and wow, what a smoke. This is one of the best fulled bodied smokes for the money. I love VSG's and all but these things are cheap. At JR they sell for $38.95 a box of 25. Thats $1.55 per smoke.

Unlike many of the stronger smokes I've tried, it wasn't one dimensional. It was very complex building to a grand finale.

As I do with most of my maduro cigars, I let it sit out for a couple of hours before smoking it and I didn't have any burn problems.

Overall, I would recomend this smoke to anyone looking for a cheap cigar that packs a punch.

totalfcl.

Thanks for the great review and welcome to the forum.

I received a box of these a couple of weeks ago. Mine are still a little on the rough side, so I'm letting them rest a little. The one I smoked definitely has flavor and strength to spare. Like a Mayorga on steroids.

I hope that they will smooth out a little so i can taste them better. I'll try another in a month or so. I've seen these very competitively priced at Mike's Cigars also. We're glad you're here and hope to hear from you in the future.

They do smooth out quite a bit after a couple of months. If i remember correctly, the one I smoke was aged for a few months and I though it was great.

Right now JR is having a huge sale on them. They're touting them as the worlds strongest cigar. I'm not sure thats true but it is a great one.

RE: La Rosa Especial Mi Favorita

A few months have past since this post and also since I received my box of maduro Mi Favoritas. I sparked one up tonite. The appearance is just as totalfcl described. A very nice looking box pressed maduro robusto with good construction and a pretty even burn.

The Mi Favorita smoothed out quite a bit compared to when they first arrived. Earthy with some spice and chocolate. A medium to medium full bodied taste. The wrapper was slightly sweet underneath the earthiness. Although not enough to mar the smoke, there was a little "breathiness" to the cigar, like an over humidified Puros Indios.

Overall, a good smoke at any price. At less than $2/stick, I'd say a great smoke. Who needs bundles with cigars like these? If you like Mayorgas, these are in the same vein.
