Nub 460 Review

Thanks dwhitacer for the smoke.

Nub Habano 460
Vitola: 4x60
Wrapper: Habano
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Price: Gifted by a buddy. (Thanks Darrell) Said $3.75 on the cello.

Setting: Sun Room, 6:50pm, bout 80 degrees out. Drinking an IBC root beer (also courtesy of Darrell )and listening to Stogie Review YQMA.

Pre-light. Eh, it's a nice medium brown with small to medium veins. Squeez test has some give but it springs right back. Wrapper has a nice oily shine to it. Cut easily using the Cranial Screw Top method with the Palio. You can see the ligero and some stems after the cap is removed. Pre light draw was very free and slightly sweet.

First third: Well, used quite a bit of fuel to get this fully lit before the start of smoking. I quick purge and then was rewarded by a lot of smoke. The flavor is woody and a bit creamy but with an underlying bitterness. Not the good coffee kind of bitterness either. The burn line is a tad uneven but nothing requiring attention and the ash is flowering off. No Nub stand for me today. Body is in the medium range.

Second third: The burn is going relatively quickly, hitting the second third about twenty minutes into the smoke. Flavor in the second third is pretty near the flavor of the first third, which is I guess the point of this whole thing. Body is moving into the medium plus range and still producing good amounts of smoke making for good smoke rings. The bitterness is starting to fade which is making me happy.

Final third: Burn is continuing to be mostly even with no touch ups. Ash has firmed up as well. Flavor is the same but with a touch of leather coming into the mix, which is nice. Bitterness is completely gone now. Smoke is getting a bit hot though, and I'm smoking pretty slowly.

Final thoughts: Well, this is about the fourth one I've had. Overall not a bad smoke but not a great one either. I don't think I'd be buying any more because I'm not a fan of large ring cigars and the taste is just kinda average. But if offered another one I'd smoke it. Smoked kinda fast for me, about an hour and change.

Liked it: Eh, it was OK
Buy again: Well, I've only bought one and don't see doing it again, though I do like the Cameroon one more than this.
Reccommend: I reccommend people try them, but not buy a box first.

Re: Nub 460

nice review, glad you encouraged trying one but not going forward with a box purchase. It appears that it smoked the same amount of time as the stansard robusto? I like the pics and the description, RG for u on this nice review.

Really Nice Review Steve!!!

I have had a total of three Habano Nubs and I thought they were constructed very well but the flavor was one dimensional. Like you said that is the selling point - the sweet spot!

I have a couple more in the Humi!!! I'll let 'em rest for awhile!!!

Have you tried the Habano? I am becoming a big fan of the habano wrapper. No on this particular stick because I have never tried one but on others.

There are quite a few Habano wrapped cigars I like. The Perdomo Cabinet Habano is a good smoke. I really like the 601 Red too. Both have more complex flavors than the Nub and just seem "richer" to me.

And Darrell, thanks again for the smoke, it was much appreciated. And I wonder how these will age, it would be interesting to try one after some time on it.

Very nice review Ratters; I've been very curious about these for quite some time & you've convinced me to go out & get a single Cameroon.

Re: Nub 460

I like these alot.

Bought one from my B&M and then ordered a fiver from C-bid. I was skeptical about all the hype but these delivered in my book. I will jump on a deal if I see one floating around from Joe Cigar or whoever wants to tempt me.

Re: Nub 460

Thanks for an excellent review and photo's Steve. I had my one and only of the NUB 460 Habano about a month back at Liberty Cigars in San Diego, and it was a very pleasant medium-full bodied cigar. Nice even burn, good amounts of smoke and pretty much one dimensional type of flavor. There were no wrapper issues with this one as some have mentioned in other reviews. I would like to revisit this one again along with the Cameroon too

Re: Nub 460

I tried my first NUB last weekend (Cameroon) and I too thought it was mediocre. I wasn't thoroughly impressed. A buddy of mine gave it to me from a box he bought. I have one more to try that he gave me, probably not something I will buy myself but if someone gave me one I'm sure I would smoke it.

Good review.
