Maria Guerro Review

My thoughts on Maria Guerro

Wrapper: Cameroon
Binder: Nic
Filler: Hon, Nic and Peru
Style: Robusto

Setting: As usual, in my office on a cold winter evening. Watching an episode on DVD of The Sopranos (season 4, episode: Watching Too Much Television).

Beverage: 12 year old Glenfiddich.

Pre-light Impressions: This classic appearing cigar had a fine textured brown wrapper with slightly pronounced veins and minimal lumpiness. A rather firm bunch gave the impression of a sturdy cigar that may be too tightly wrapped. An initial draw appeared from perfect to slightly tight. I prefer slight resistance in my smokes. A pre-light draw gave an earthy impression on the senses.

Burn: The burn was consistent with solid ash structure along with a gray appearance. After dropping the first inch of ash, a pronounced cone remained on the cigar. Towards the middle to final third of the smoke, the perceived tight wrapper revealed itself in a slight crack in it. The cigar maintained its integrity until the very close of the cigar when the wrapper tended to become looser. Yet again, even with the looser wrapper towards the close, this didn’t impede my enjoyment of this smoke.

Smoke:
First third – Initially a very pleasant medium bodied cigar. This cigar offered a pleasantly fragrant aroma that was creamy with sweet hints and occasionally chocolate.
Second third – Remained consistently creamy and sweet. My concern of a slightly tightly wrapped cigar was revealed in the form of a slight crack in the wrapper at this point. Nevertheless, cigar maintained its structural integrity. As the ample sweetness continued, I found little to no aftertaste which was pleasing.
Final third – While the first two thirds were of a medium strength, it developed into a fuller strength I'm sure as the oils began to collect. The creamy, sweetness remained but was more subtle as the cigar took on a toasty flavor. The wrapper issue became slightly more pronounced as the final third. As the cigar rounded out, occasional spicy notes were detected.

Overall Impressions: This elegant, medium bodied cigar provided generous sweet, creamy flavor that ended with a fuller toastiness at its close. I would certainly not hesitate to call this an enjoyable cigar that was a pleasant smoke from start to finish. The slight wrapper problems were a bit of a disappointment but were minimal until the very close and were overshadowed by the overall enjoyment of this cigar.

Maria Guerrero and Glenfiddich... Life is good.

I like the Maria Guerrero as well. My personal face is the petite corona. Great for when you have limited time. Love that subtle chocolatey undertone.

Mike, nice review. I'm really fond of the MG's myself. I find they have a flavor reminiscent of caramel, myself, but in any case, they're really nice, and a great choice for newbies, too. They're one of those cigars that you can enjoy, even if you incline toward heavier smokes. And for about $5 each for a Toro, they're very affordable.

Re: Maria Guerro

Agree with the review and based on my smoking experience this cigar should be on everyone's list to at least try.....

Its unique flavor puts it in a class that has the potential to rival some of the cuban offerings out there when you factor price into the mix.

I feel compelled to say I prefer Glenmorangie or Aberlour to Glenfiddich however.

Nice review. The huge one I smoked was terrific as well. I think it was a corona gorda - 6 x 56 or something. Great smoke! Mildly sweet, great burn..etc...

Nice review!

I've been meaning to get a couple of these to try out. I've heard nothing but good, so I will have to check them out.
