Henry Clay Habana 2000 Pyramid Review

From the outside you would think this was going to be a great smoke. The wrapper was beautiful, smooth, with only small veins. The cigar was firm to the touch with no apparent flaws in the construction. I took a prelight puff and it tasted nasty, not like most cigars I smoke, almost metalic tasting.

I lit the puppy up and started puffing. Throughout the cigar I had lots of burn trouble. For some reason the wrapper didn't want to stay lit. I kept correcting it with my lighter, a little annoyed, i kept puffing. At first the taste was kind of earth, with a little pepper on the back of the tounge. After about an inch of ash fell off I was kind of enjoying the smoke. About 1 1/2 inches in though, things turned ugly. Suddenly my mouth was filled with this burning dog crap on your neighbors doorstep taste, just gross. I beared with it for about 5 minutes and couldn't take it any longer. I ran home scraping my tounge just waiting to get a class of coffee to wash the taste out of my mouth.

Overall I would rate this cigar a D, for damn that was nasty. Usually I give brand a second try, but I'm reconsidering this time.

I have never had good luck with Henry Clay cigars. I would describe their "Brevas" as metallic tasting as well-- I won't shed a tear when that company starts to clean up their act. As I understand it, they used to be a great ISOM brand, a long time ago.

A certain magazine sure seems to like these but I have never been impressed. They don't win points for looks either.

I thought the cigar I had was rather good looking. Just tasted like poop, thats all.
