Puros Indios Piramides #2 natural - Secret Santa

For my second Secret Santa cigar, I smoked a Puros Indios Piramide #2, natural.

My overall smoking experience and rating was an 8.

The #2 is a big, almost intimidating cigar, unless of course you're ready for a big smoke! On the afternoon of New Year's Eve, I'm ready for a big smoke. The #2 is very good looking cigar with a beautiful oily wrapper. A little soft to the touch, but the light and draw are ok.

This cigar didn't have a strong aroma or a lot of smoke. The burn was mostly even with a firm, almost white ash. This #2 is actually what I'd call a refreshing smoke. A very clean, light taste that builds to a medium bodied smoke by the time you're half way through.

The taste is Honduran all the way. Not heavy or overbearing, but on the lighter side especially for a big ring guage cigar. The maduro versions are a little more full bodied.

There is a little power towards the end, but nothing that requires sitting down. This is a good day time smoke with a light beverage rather than an after dinner cigar.

I'm a little biased towards the maduro, but this is an excellent, well made cigar. It was certainly the right smoke for the afternoon of New Year's eve. Many thanks to my secret Santa!

rjs,

I finally smoked one of these big babies, in maduro...! :-) Construction was good, hard at touch, tight draw, very good looking wrapper; I found it a bit more tasty than the natural you reviewed, but nothing like a kick-ass smoke. Quite a lot of smoke, some relight and corrections necessary (to be kept at a lower RH? I'll try...), quite flacky and grey ashes at the beginning, firmer and whiter after 1/2, no buzz... ok for whose who likes light to medium bodied cigars, but not exactly my type of cigar!
Happy smoke

cv,

The PI Piramides #2 maduro is one of my favorite smokes. My experience with the PIP #2 is the same as yours. I just tried the double maduro (Educated Cigar) and that has become my new favorite in that shape. Check it out.

That is one of the things that fascinates me about cigars is how you can have such different 'maduros'. I have found the PI maduro to be much lighter than a lot of other brand maduros and then there is the maduro-maduro (oscuro?). Oh well, I don't care what they call them, I just care about the taste and the PI Pyramid #2 is one of my favorites.
