Perdomo Reserva Champagne "R" -- Tell me it ain't so!!!

Maybe it was just green... Maybe one of the dogs crapping in the breezeway shut down my olfactory system... Maybe I'm just getting old!!!

I'm grasping for a logical straw that will give me some "reason" for an uninspired experience with the Champagne "R" last night.

After returning to the launch pad from a RP Diesel the night before, I was ready for a nice, mild, tasty experience. A Top 25 rating of 9 seemed to suggest I might have that!

Ahh well...

LIGHT & BURN -- No problem, though the burn seemed rather fast.

DRAW -- Loose and fast

PROGRESSION -- Hot and harsh for 1 inch, but mellowed a bit for the duration.... Still, not a lot of "distinguishable" flavor, as I've had in many other smokes... Nothing really to "describe," except that it tasted like a mildly toasty "cigar." Things didn't change even as I approached the nub.

AROMA -- Again, nothing that excited me as I took the customary sniffs from the cap-curl. I'd like to blame it on the dog... But I'm not so sure that's the case!

Ahh well... What's the prognosis??? Leave the rest of them in the humi for a few months, or get rid of the dogs???

I had a young one right from the shop, Torpedo, right after Christmas and it wasn't has bad you say yours was, but it was not awe inspiring and could have made use of a "timeout" period, IMHO. Mild it was, but not as repugnant as you describe, I'd have been PO'd!

PLEX... Sounds like I'd better let them rest for awhile.

I don't discount the reviews of others... Just get a bit perplexed when I can't honestly share the same high ratings.

Re: Perdomo Reserva Champagne "R" -- Tell me it ain't so!!!

I just finished smoking one minutes ago. I picked it up at my B&M on the way home from work on my tobacconist's recommedation. He was a young fella, but he claimed he'd smoked one and liked it. He's seen me in the store many times and has some idea of my buying habits.

My first impression was that I didn't like the cigar. It was a bit on the lighter side. I actually set it in my ashtray with the intent of letting it burn out. I followed up with a Don Carlos Belicoso. After eyeing the Perdomo in my ashtray, burning its way to an early demise, I picked it up and gave it another shot. It was a strange contrast between the Perdomo and the Don Carlos. It was like chasing a shot of whiskey with a soda, full-bodied to light. I kind of liked the contrast. I continued smoking both cigars, alternating between the two after a few draws on each. The Perdomo had an aroma that was somewhat floral. I can't place it. It's not something I'd smoke regularly, but I'll smoke the second stick I bought. I doubt I'd recommend it to anyone else, but it wasn't a bad cigar, just not the right one for me.

This cigar IS in the mild side of mild, and was designed that way. They make an excellent early morning smoke cause they are so light. I have had several, and found nothing but mild, mild, mild. However, when I want mild, I know that this one doesn't let me down!!

Thank you again, kind colleagues, for your impressions!

Yes, it's reputed to be a mild and creamy stick. My "blahh" impression may be due to any number of factors (shipping, humidification and aging most likely). I'll give this one time in the humi, and give her another chance down the road.

Palm55, that is exactly how I felt about it. I have loved smoking the white labels (Cameroons i think) and the Red label maduros. I even enjoy the CI legends made by Perdomo, but I just couldn't get into this one.

Mild but with no flavor, smoke and a weak draw. Green would be a good word for it.

That cigar has kept me from buying several sampler packs, just because I don't know anyone who smokes it. If anyone really likes them, leave a post and if I order a sampler, some might be headed your way.

I will be happy to take some off your hads

BTW the white label are corojo and I did a review of it the other day check it out. I liked it but it was very strong.

I had the cameroon (which has the silver label) last night I think I like it the best out of this line (but I have always loved cameroon wrappers). I think the white will be the more popular for its strength and flavors. but the red is a nice maddy and I do not like maddies. all in all I think it is apretty good line.

I have smoked about 6 of these in Torpedo. The first few I had about 6 months ago were outstanding. While mild in flavor, there was a nice depth and character. The last 4 or 5 however, have been green and aweful. I'm guessing, but I think that the popularity of this cigar has increased, and to keep up with demand Perdomo has begun shipping cigars that should have been aged longer. I have a box cooking in my humidor. I'll let you know in about 6 months if the aging has made the difference or not.

I smoked a perdomo reserva this morning too, i belive its the one yall are talking about, in an orange cello, said la tradicion and cabinet series on the band.
I agree with some of yall, it was ok, i would not say it was bad, just did not seem to have a lot of flavor, and wayyyy too mild. not bad, but not worth my buying any of.

Right on "orange cello" and right on the "cabinet series" band... And (regrettably) right on your impression.... "Unimpressed"

What I can't figure out is WHY this stick pegged a solid "9" on the Top 25!!!

This is why I'm losing faith in ratings, other than those that are shared "on-the-spot" through CG.

Okay, okay! I'll lighten up!

Re: Perdomo Reserva Champagne "R" -- Tell me it ain't so!!!

I've found that overall, I am not too much impressed with Perdomo cigars. While I enjoy the Cameroon series and to some extent, the maduro series, I do not really care for ANY of the other lines.

I don't think they are a bad cigar by any stretch of the imagination. I have found that the taste profiles that Nick Perdomo makes doesn't suit me well.

The same holds true for anything that Rolondo Reyes makes. But I think that some of his sticks are absolute skunks. But that's just me. He does make some beauties but I don't care for them.

Now, give me sticks from Torano, Fuente. or Padron, and I'm pretty much a happy camper.

Alec Bradley is turning out some decent smokes too.
