La Unica #400 maduro Review

I received one of these at the Big Smoke in Las Vegas last Nov. I smoked it 2 months later and thought it was one of the best medium bodied smokes I'd ever had. I picked up a couple from a local tobacconist and tried one today to see if I'd get a repeat performance.

La Unica #400 maduro (robusto)

This is another Fuente product. Feels firm. The dark, flat brown maduro wrapper is smooth and free of large veins. Being right out of the tobacconists humidor, no oily sheen. An average looking maduro. 6.0

The light was normal and the draw nearly perfect. The aroma seemed a little sharp, but not offensive. 6.5

The cigar had a full taste, but not as smooth as my previous #400. There was no bitterness, but the cigar wasn't really smooth either. Perhaps a touch of youth. Earthy and woody without much spice. 6.5

Overall, another well made cigar by Fuente. The flavors were not well developed and a little rough, although still very smokable. Just not as enjoyable as it could have been. The cigar performed well, but the taste was a little short, again, maybe just young. I'll store the other #400 and see how it does in a couple of months. Overall 6.5

have you tried the La Unica Cameroon series? I find them much better than the regular, and they have a great Cameroon wrapper and a different blend. Stronger and fuller, and the traditional Fuente great construction... more for your taste, if I got what you like! (it seems that we most often are on the same wavelenght...)

I bought a bundle of La Unica #400 Naturals to stabilize my humidor. I have never ever been dissappointed with them. In fact, I still have about 8 or 9 left. They are fantastic cigars. I haven't tried the cameroon series yet, I want to, but my local tobacconist doesn't carry them yet. I heard great things about the maduro line, but then again, what bad have we heard about Fuente? La Unicas started out as seconds and didn't even come with a band, but that has all changed now. Now they are able to bear the title "premium bundle"

Thanks for the post. I tried the Cameroon version in Sept/00. It was ok, but I wasn't overly impressed. Maybe I'll give tham another look.

I was just impressed with that particular cigar, the #400 maduro. I wanted to know if they all smoke like the one I had or if maybe just the combination of my tastes and that particular cigar on that day are what made it so great to me.

There are certain cigars that appeal to a wide audience of people. There are also cigars that, regardless of price or blend, have extra appeal to individuals because of that person's preference for a specific combination of tastes. Those are the cigars that I am looking for.

I am looking for the smokes, regardless of country of origin, price, blend, brand, or ratings that are a close fit to my taste preferences. I want to be able to pick up any cigar from my humidor and have a great smoke.

That's why I was interested in the La Unica #400 maduro. That's why I like the Punch rothschild maduro maduro. Regardless of what the Punch is to other smokers, it fits my taste preferences to a high degree. All for only $2/stick. I enjoy it as much as a $10 smoke. Finding the perfect smokes...for me is what drives my quest to find and try new cigars.
