First Cigar Reviews - Gurkha Symphony; Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Maduro

Hello fellow tobacco-inclined primates,

Just wanted to do a quick review of two cigars I smoked this week.

First up is the K. Hansotia Gurkha Symphony Robusto. I smoked this on Sunday evening after my Sunday league baseball game (we won 14 to 4)

This was a very good looking cigar, clean w/ attractive labels. Definitely "presitigous" looking.

It burned very nicely, very evenly. Looked like a cigar someone would be smoking in a movie or cartoon due to its perfectly even burn. This was the first cigar in my (very little) experience that burned so nicely. Ash was a light gray w/ some streaks of black. Held together very nicely.

Taste was very mild, very smooth. The most present taste was something I'd describe as "tea." There were also some toasty, woodsy undertones but no real standout, distinct flavors.

This cigar also puts off a good amount of smoke. Enough that I was able to blow some circles even with a light breeze blowing. (smoked outside)

Enjoyment of the cigar increased when I began to drink some water and eat some chips. The mildness of the cigar really played well off of the saltiness of the chips. This would probably be a good "a.m." cigar as you guys call them. I can see it pairing nicely with coffee.

The session lasted at least an hour and overall it was a pleasant one, though I got a bit bored of the cigar near the end. I probably would have stopped smoking it sooner had I not added the tortilla chips to the mix. Hopefully I have committed no great cigar sin by pairing the two!

The other cigar I smoked this week was the Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Maduro which came in the CI humidor + 8 cigar sampler deal.

This was my first "box pressed" cigar and I liked it alot! I really liked the dark wrapper, a slight oilyness to it, like freshly lotioned skin (hmm..that sounds weird. oh well)

The burn of this cigar was not nearly as impressive as the Gurkha. That may be my fault, as I have no lighter and have been using wood matches. The first third burned very unevenly, though it started to level out in the 2nd third. The draw was tighter than the Gurkha but not too hard. It gave off less smoke, but the smoke it did give off was bright white. Very satisfying in that regard.

I loved the taste of this cigar. Noticeable cocoa, coffee and earthy flavors. In hindsight, the taste is alot like the aroma of a tiny coffee bean factory/coffee shop I toured in a dutch colonial town in Indonesia (yeah, random, but true) The cigar gave off a very pleasant aroma, which made me wish I were smoking inside.

My smoking session again, lasted about an hour. I would definitely smoke one of these again. But of course, I'm quite new to this cigar world and assume there are flavors and tastes beyond my wildest expectations out there! Here's to finding them

Hope you enjoyed this, look forward to writing more in the future!

Temple City huh? I'm in Monrovia... We're practically neighbors! Nice reviews. Any good local shops you frequent?

small world! The only shop I "frequent" would be the cigar shop in old town that I've stopped at a few times to get a smoke for the night. The one on the corner of De Lacey and Green st. The name escapes me at the moment.

And when I say frequent, that means I've been there like 10 times in my life. I'm really just starting out w/ this whole cigar thing! thats what happens when you find humidor + sampler deals on slickdeals.net. That was all it took

LMAO! Small world indeed. That place is called Cigars by Chivas btw (i think). Yeah, Slickdeals is what got me back into cigars. With all the Altadis deals on that site, I started smoking cigars after a couple years off. We should get together sometime, I think I got a few smokes I think you should try.

you're right, it's cigars by chivas, not sure why I couldnt remember. My favorite thing there (not sure if they still carry them) were these tiny hand rolled vanilla things. My friends and I called them "clints" because they looked like the little cigar/cigarrette type things Clint Eastwood smokes in all those spaghetti westerns. Great little camping or other various rugged adventure smokes.

and it does me well to see you're a dodger fan! I was at the sweep and I'll be at game 4 too.

Great reviews. The Indian Tabac Super Fuerte's are outstanding cheap little smokes, IMHO.

Dude I feel like you're my twin brother or something. I was at the sweep too Resv 3 LOL! And I got tickets to game 3 but I'm trying to sell them, but if I can't get the price that I want, I'll just go to the game! Win win situation for me!

thanks illinois! It was the one that really caught my eye when I received my sampler pack and it lived up to whatever arbitrary expectations I had for it!

Totally agree.

Smoked my first one last night and for a $1.00 smoke this was very enjoyable. If I could land a 20 or 25 ct. box of these at that price I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

SOLID!
