Taboo LR havana torpedo Review

I bought a sampler of the Taboo LR series and the first LR I decided to smoke was t he Havana torpedo with a nice dark wrapper with some pretty veins on it. The tip of the torpedo is longer and slimmer then of any other torpedo I smoked in the past. The aroma reminds me of dry wood, and when feeling the cigar I could not notice any hard or soft spots in the cigar. The predraw was hard though.

Due to the bad draw it was hard to distinguish the flavors very well. I could taste some leather, combined with sweetness. The leather slowly grows in strength and becomes creamy close to the 2 inch mark. Halfway I could taste a hint of chocolate, soon to be replaced by salty nuts. The last part of the cigar became more flavorful.

The draw was horrible; I felt I was sucking a ping pong ball through a pipe. It was hard work to get some smoke through the cigar, and that affected both the flavors and the amount of smoke produced, which was poor. I tried to solve the problem by cutting some more of the cigar, and that caused the wrapper to unwrap.

Would I buy this cigar again? I would love to give it another try and to review it again because I do believe that this cigar has potential, but the bad draw ruined it.

Thanks for the great review. I know what you mean about a hard draw, I have had some cigars that were that way, but after sitting for several months they got a lot better.

Thanks for the review. I am really not a fan of Taboo though.

I like the Taboo factory value blend (as a budget smoke that is, can't compare it to a premium smoke), the Special Forces Original Blend and the Twist.

I've enjoyed the LR havana and the maduro. I didn't have a draw issue with mine though, so that wasn't a detractor. Still haven't tried the Conn. I also like the SF and I'm just biding my time before I buy the Twist. I have pledged to not buy anymore cigars while in Iraq.

Hey Don Fernando! Thanks for taking the time to do the review. Sorry about the plug.

Because of the first thing you said about the longer tip, I recommend these Torps be cut 1"-1 1/2" from the tip from the start. Most of us are not use to this long neck. Hopefully everyone will read this or I need to include this tip with every order or maybe putting it on the website would be best? I cut mine like I said, and have had very few problems since.
Anyway, you did right by cutting it further down, but the wrapper should not have done what it did. Give me a heads up on your next order. (I owe you one)

Re: Taboo LR havana torpedo

i seem to be the minority on the LR havana, but i really like it. however, to me, the robusto has the best flavor, followed by the perfecto. i've bought a bunch of each and really enjoyed them. the sfo is still tops on my list, but these are a strong second.
