Cohiba yellow band Dominicans Review

Ive found some fantastic deals on "Cohiba yellow band", but the prices are soo low that i tend to look at them a little cockeyed. I was wondering if anyone out there knows anything about them or has had one or two and could tell me if they are worth the money. Ive had everyone of Cohibas regular line and enjoyed them all! Thanks for you input

RE: Cohiba yellow band Dominicans

I've tried the Cohiba red dot and they are anything but cheap. Not a very good smoke either IMHO. I have yet to run into any of the yellow bands but if I do I'll be sure to try them. Always up for a new smoke.

RE: Cohiba yellow band Dominicans

big_bish,

I'm kind of surprised you didn't like the red dot Cohibas. I don't like the prices either, but I've always thought they were a pretty decent smoke. Cameroon wrapper. Medium to full bodied flavor. There are less expensive cigars that give me the same satisfaction as a red dot, that's true. Maybe the red dot isn't as good a "value", but I wouldn't turn one down. Just my opinion.

kjpman,

Like yourself, I've seen deep discounting on the Cohiba yellow band. I have never smoked one. I haven't really heard any rave reviews about them either.

What kind of smokes are you looking for? Price point?

Welcome to the forum, we're glad you're here.

RE: Cohiba yellow band Dominicans

Thank you kindly RJS,
I guess im not looking for anything really special. I like cigars ranging from light to full bodied, I really enjoy a little fuller bodied smoke like Partagas, Punch double corona, etc. Of course Im always looking for deals and these Cohibas a certainly in that range, even if they arent a GREAT smoke, Im willing to give them a try anyway!! In doing some research on the internet, I have found like deals on brands like Puros Indios and La Aruara cameroon. God bless the internet!!!!! I hope that if anyone has had the pleasure of trying one of these cigars, to drop all of us a line and lets us konw about it. Give me about a week and I will be able to tell you myself, Ive ordered a box of Pyramides.

If you are looking for good prices on Puros Indios, JR Cigars just recently started to carry them. They have about the lowest prices around.

kjpman,

If you haven't already, go back a page and look at the post "Cheap cigars". Some of the Lowland Gorillas have listed some of their favorites.

Re: Cohiba yellow band Dominicans

Good evening.

As I am from Germany I am kind of confused by the labeling system COHIBA uses in the US.
In Germany only yellow-banded COHIBA are sold. However I never experience any infderior taste to the brown-white labels.
However what I regret is that German stores only sells the Cubans and not the Republica Domica. Which I smoke whenever I travel to the US, because I prefer their mildness (excuse my English).

So from my point of view the Yellow-Band Republica Domica is the perfect cigar and I woul definatly recommend it's purchase.

Since I have no experiance with the pricing in the US, could anyone tell me what could be considered a fair price for a Yellow-Band Republica Domica Churchill? -so that I know what to look for during my next visit.

It would also be nice if somebody could explain your labeling system for me?

Many greetings

Julius

Re: Cohiba yellow band Dominicans

I'm not sure that you can even get those in the US anymore. I seem to remember a thread about them being discontinued after a lawsuit by the cuban manufacturer. The two sites that were selling them, that I knew of, don't have them anymore.
See if you can find the discussion, I seem to remember someone saying that the Cohibas were going to continue to be made but under a different brand name -- mayber someone else knows.

Re: Cohiba yellow band Dominicans

I had one the other day and honestly I was not impressed at all. It ws ok but not what I look for in a cigar. The fact that there are so many deeply discounted Cohiba Republica Dominica out there leaves me feeling a bit leery about the cigar in general. However I have had the red dot and though it ws not bad had a med profile but IMHO it was overpriced. But hey I say smoke what you like!

NEW YORK, June 23, 2004-General Cigar announced today that the Second Circuit Court of Appeals had granted its request for a stay pending appeal of a lower court's May 26th ruling against General Cigar in the COHIBA trademark dispute with Cubatabaco.

The stay means that General Cigar will be permitted to continue marketing and selling COHIBA cigars while the appeal is pending.

"We are obviously pleased with the Second Circuit's decision," said Edgar Cullman Jr., president and chief executive officer of General Cigar. He noted further, "Stays are not usual in trademark cases, so this does give us encouragement."

General Cigar received its first registration of the COHIBA trademark in the United States in 1981, and obtained an updated registration in 1995. The company has been selling its COHIBA cigar in the United States for over two decades. The COHIBA line of cigars is handcrafted in the Dominican Republic and is a favorite among cigar connoisseurs.

Cubatabaco filed its lawsuit against General Cigar in 1997, claiming rights to the COHIBA name in the United States under U.S. law and international treaties, although Cubatabaco had failed to take any legal action against General Cigar for nearly 20 years.http://www.cigarworld.com/promotions/

Re: Cohiba yellow band Dominicans

I was gifted one of these Cohiba yellow bands about a year ago and one word sums it up...uninspired! IMHO there are much better smokes out there for less.
