DPG Cuban classic Review

Pics to follow tomorrow when I get to work.

Prelight. Nice draw. Tasty wrapper. Earthy.
Initial impressions. Very full flavored. Lot of nicotine. Forced me to smoke it slow. More bite and pepper than I prefer. But exquisitely made and burning very nice at the inch mark. Although it is strong there is a certain creamyness to it. A contradiction I know but there none the less.

Midway. After an inch or so the pepper smoothed out. It was pleasant through the nose and strong cedar flavor. Continued power. This cigar is a butt kicker. Ash fell about the halfway point.

Finish. Taking of the band blew the wrapper and an otherwise beautiful burn went awry. Flavor and power continued to the finish.

Legend rating 3. Solid 3.

What size? I've had both the belicosos and robustos and don't consider them to be real strong...which is to stay they are on the stronger side of medium IMHO. I love these sticks.

I agree. The strongest of this line is the Perla and Corona Especiales, imo.

IMHO they are the best in the Cuban Classic line. I think that they are also one of the best that Pepin produces.

Re: DPG Cuban classic

I completely agree. The DPG Cuban Classic is my current favorite. I happen to really like pepper, and the ones I've had (Robusto) haven't let me down. Almost always, about half way through, something else kicks in, sometimes earthy, sometimes cream, definite contrasts, which I also look for.
Great review, thanks.

Re: DPG Cuban classic

Just had my first Cuban Classic today as well. I was planning on posting a review, but Ill just stick my comments in here.

You covered it pretty well Legend. I too noticed a creamyness to it about an inch in. One thing you kinda touched on with taking the label off, I found the cigar to be well made, but pretty delicate.

Mine was a bit moist, so the draw was tight. I was pressing gently on the wapper and some of the wrapper split by the lit end. I have done this on other cigars with no problem, this cigar seems more delicate. However, I took the band off before lighting with no damage, so go figure.

I really enjoyed this stick, nice smoothness to the pepper. Decent burning (though smoking it outside with a bit of wind, it burned pretty fast). If I remember your scale correctly from your reviews I have read I think I would give it a 4/5. I didn't find it real strong and didn't get a nic kick from it, but that's just me.

Thanks for the review. Nice ash you got!

Re: DPG Cuban classic

Gotta agree, the Perlas are one fine cigar.
I did not find these too strong, a pretty solid medium body smoke, but everyone is different.

If Pepin ever made a bad cigar I have not seen it.

Re: DPG Cuban classic

I had my first one of these last night, the robusto I think. A very nice full flavored cigar. I normally prefer something a bit smoother, easier on the palate I guess, but this cigar was a real treat. Much better than the blue label IMO.

Thumbs up Re: DPG Cuban classic

Great review and not a surprising result. DPG IMO is blending the very best sticks available right now.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us!
