Excalibur III (with a little age) Review

I have seen some posts about aging non-isom's and here is my recent experience. Long before I became a Havana snob I loved the HdM Excalibur line. Today at the bottom of one of my igloodors at work I found a box of #III's that I had put down on 1/5/00 and forgotten about. I smoked it one on my way home tonite. The year had improved it enormously. Surprisingly it had lost none of it's strength, but had gained the most amazing flavors. It was creamy and nutty, two words that I would have sworn could not apply to a cigar. It was unique! It had a flavor all it's own. Not Havana like at all, but very lovely and fragrant. I would stand that particular cigar up against almost any cigar in the world. Long term I do not know if continued aging would improve this cigar or not, but I will keep you all informed as time progresses.

I have a box of Excalibur #1 maduros that I purchased about a month ago. Not sure exactly how old they were before I purhased them. I plan on not smoking any until at least summer. I took about 2/3 out of the cellophane and left 1/3 in. See if it makes a difference, if they pick up any cedar taste from the humi, etc.,etc.

Excaliburs were a staple of mine until I found the product from that liitle island so available. I still like to smoke the box-pressed Prensado Oscuro from time to time. Many retailers have had a hard time moving them with all the trendy releases around lately, including the Cameroon Excaliburs.
