Good first review. I will be another voice to agree with the humidity level works best for me at 65ish as well. I havent had one of these yet. I might have to keep an eye out for a deal on a fiver.

I don't have one of these, but I may need to try one. I use 67% humidity crystals that I got from CI. they came in a sheet of 10 packets and go into a little zip lock bag. Sometimes when you buy sticks from them, they send one of these along with them. Seem to be working pretty well.

I'm thinking of picking up a few of these. They are the cigar special at a place near where I work. The toro size is $3 a stick. Is this a good deal?

If any cigar benefits from being kept at 65%, it is the Partagas Blacks. I've smoked a lot of Clasicos and Bravos and they smoked very nicely when I switched to 65% for all of my cigars instead of 70%.

If you're in a hurry to smoke another, I'd dry box for a few days. Otherwise, set them up at 65% and give them a few months.

I'd say that is pretty close to the price you can get them for if you buy a box. A box of 20 magnificos (6x54 IIRC) is 65 dollars. So getting the box price for a single at a shop is a pretty good deal, I'd say.

Re: Partagas black label 1845

Absolutely, 72% is a bit high for some smokes to smoke will, personally I have a cab set for 70% that can fluctuate between 69-72% for any gars I plan on "marinating" and a smoking humi that's kept at 65% it seems to be the level where all the gar's seem to smoke comfortably for me.

My personal experience with a Black Partagas is a plugged memory to say the least but as many have suggested before, it's not fair to judge the the smoke on one attempt, could be an isolated case.
