Up in the air... Oliva "G" Robusto Review

This was gifted to me from Moe (md495 in our Newby PIF. Now I don't know if it's because I pulled this after the Gurkha Regent experience I just wrote up or what but I just couldn't get into this one either. It looked beautiful and tasty. I guess I should have tried punching this first (if I had one ATM) because the draw was looser then a $2 whore and I only nipped a very little cap off. The initial 5-10 mins of the stick was pretty tasty and I thought I could settle in a start to relax with this one. Tasted like it could be good, if not a winner but it was pretty short lived. The Nicotine taste kept building to an almost intolerable level towards the end. I don't beleive I was drawing off it too often and I was making a concious effot to take my time. Maybe I would have better luck with a longer stick. I just don't know.

As usual, I don't write a stick off at just one. I like to keep an open mind and I'll probably try to pick up a couple more to try.

Any ideas from a seasoned Gorilla on this one? Does this sound common or did I possibly screw up somewhere?

Chris

Must have gotten a bad one. I know a lot of BOTLs love this one for the relative value as it is an inexpensive but likeable smoke. Try one more in a week with a gullotine cut and a glass of red wine, port or scotch whisky (preferrably single malt).

I enjoy these very much although I prefer the maduros. They are mild but flavorful. Both the natural and the maduro pair well with scotch.

I'm like you. I believe the maduros have a better flavor.

Re: Up in the air... Oliva "G" Robusto

I too prefer the maduro. On the maduros, the flavor really picks up in the second half of the cigar. It's kinda like all of a sudden adding a shot of espresso and some cream at the same time. I've also found the draw on these to be looser than average. Someone please chime in if you agree or disagree.
