Good Cheap Cigars?

Hi, just curious if anyone had suggestions on some good and cheap cigars (less than, oh, $4). So far, the best cheap cigars i've had were an American Stogie and a Cuban Crafters Don Kiki green label. The American Stogie was nice and flavorful with no harshness for about $2.30 a stick. The Don Kiki I got in a sampler, but I'm sure is about $2. It is nutty and mild, however, some suffer from poor construction. Any other suggestions? The worst cheap cigar I think I had was a Don Diego Palmas. Very mild, tight draw, sweet yet dirty tasting. Any suggestions on good cheap cigars?

Was also recently brought up in this thread...

Can we perhaps get a sticky thread in the Newbie section for this very question?

We all make 'em. I'm new here too. This forum has been around for a long time. I can't imagine that there's very much that hasn't already been asked on this forum. The search link is your friend.

Re: Good Cheap Cigars?

This is a good topic to bring up repeatedly in my opinion. This "use the search" insistance is getting out of hand. Why not just send everyone with a question here to the library with the name of a book since it has been covered before? The advantage to this discussion forum is staying current. If you don't feel like answering a question you did before, don't click the damned thread. If you do click the thread however you might just learn something from a member who wasn't around last time the topic surfaced.

Discussing things like this is what made Club Stogie feel like a home to me; it is selfish for us to limit newbies the joy of interacting and discussing the topic again because someone here a year ago already talked about it. Certain topics, ESPECIALLY CIGARS should be discussed repeatedly.

Prices change, availability changes, and new cigars are found. There are cigars that are available now that weren't 6 months and a year ago, some that were available back then no longer are or have increased in price.

My posts in those linked threads are certainly out of date. vl1016, this is a great topic and I am glad you brought it up.. I will come up with some suggestions for you later on today. Right now I need to get some coffee and take a dump..

Please use the search function ... this has been covered before .

I'll cut and paste the review below.

"Take a Dump" by "Big Butt"

Perhaps it was only a matter of time, but Don Kaka, the maker of Big Butt cigars, has recently released a new cigar called Take a Dump.

I picked up one at my local shop. Interesting brown wrapper, looks like pieces of corn are imbedded in it. The smell was earthy, loamy with a strong fetid character that differs somewhat from the cow/horse patty aroma of my favorite cubans.

I picked up a newspaper, a cup of Joe, and headed into the "reading room". I really had to strain to get this cigar lit. Once it sparked up, I was assaulted with a flavor that I truly hated. I tried valiantly to get past this nasty taste butt couldn't. I tossed in after less than an inch. The only good news is that they do flush nicely.

I can't recommend smoking these dumps.

But you're right Matt, cheap cigar deals are continually evolving and what was hot even a few weeks ago may be unavailable today. No point in discussing LVHEY Silencios, Cupido knuckles or FDO Shapes anymore.

Re: Good Cheap Cigars?

I think everyone looking for a cheap smoke should pm txmatt! (meant as a compliment) I agree, to a certain extent, with Matt. New cigars come out, tastes change, but some of the older suggestions still hold true (ie. FdO's) I will say, when I first came here, I searched and went with several suggestions of Matt's. He's the king of good, cheap cigars. Just my $

Re: Good Cheap Cigars?

For a good cheap cigar I like the El Rey Del Mundo Robustos. Usually under $3.00. I also like the Gran Habano no 5. I use to enjoy some bundled Park Avenue 44's for about 2.00 a stick but I haven't been able to find those for a while. I have bought a bunch of good smokes from cigarbid for about a buck or two a stick but that may not count since the retail price may be much higher. In Cubans the Fonseca Delicias are under $3.00 and can be really good. The Party Shorts are about 4.00 - 4.75 a stick and are a favorite.

Thumbs up Re: Good Cheap Cigars?

I'll second you on the Don Kiki greens. They're about $1/stick. Mild and nutty, but somewhat bland. The only way I can enjoy them now is with some strong coffee. I've tried too many other better cigars.

Personally like La Finca Fuma Larga and Cazadore. That's my main sub $1 smoke (mixed filler - medium & consistent).

HdM Excalibur 1066 Dark Knight (mild/med w/ some spice) and HdM Excalibur Royal Sterling (mild & consistent). Around $3.

Every Sancho Panza cigar. I've had all but a few of the regular line. Can have burn problems mostly with the smaller ring gauges. Around $2 - $3.50.

Regular Padrons (duh). $1.50 - $10.

Cu-Avana regular line and Fire are around $2 and are nice, mild, and sweet. Smiliar, but not the same.

Oh yeah and Gurkha Master Select Perfecto #2. 25 for $128. Add a freebie (CI Weekly Special - 20 count humi + 5 Gurkha Legends + 5 Gurkha Connecticut + 5 Gurkha Expedition) and that comes to $3.2/stick + a free humidor. Not too shabby.* I've had the Perfecto #2 and Legend and they're both nice cigars.

I like a heck of a lot more, but those come to mind right now.

Edit: Oops. Almost forgot. CI Super Premium 2nds. Occasionally get an acrid one, but normally very good. (Med-Full) $1.25

* I am not affiliated with CI in any way

I agree. I too think the old "use the search function" crap gets over used at times.

Funny you mention the reference to a book. That's exactly what I thought. Perhaps the entire forum should just say...."Google" it or go read "The Ultimate Cigar Encyclopedia" by John Holland. This website is living and breathing....that's the beauty of it.

Re: Good Cheap Cigars?

I would throw in a vote for Flor de Olivas (natural or maduro), Consuegras (which can be bought from J&R) and Padrom Fumas. With the exception of the Padrons, the FDO's and Connies no longer due it for me. However, I used to really enjoy them up to about a year ago.

Re: Good Cheap Cigars?

Boy was I constipated!!

Cheapies I currently buy:

Hoyo De Monterrey Demitasse
- $52.45 shipped for a box of 50 4x39 cigars from JRCigars.com. The Sumatra wrapper with the Broadleaf binder makes these complex and tasty. My favorite short smoke currently.

La Rosa Especial
- Holts is one of the last vendors to be clearancing these out, and I have selfishly keeping them to myself. These were once very strong, spicy cigars; however OLD boxes are what remain and they have reduced in strength. The last 2 boxes I purchased were rolled in 2002 and 2000. They will run you $32 to $45 shipped for a box of 20.

La Finca, Belinda, Belinda Black, Maria Mancini, Sancho Panza, Sancho Panza Double Maduro, Sancho Panza Extre Fuerte are all other cigars you can get in the $1.50 - $2.00 per cigar price when bough in box quantity from JRCigars.

The place I get a lot of my cheap cigars is CigarBid AKA "the Devil". You need to learn how to play the game there though. The following cigars I have been able to get for under $40 a box consistantly and are good sticks
Indian Tabac Cuban Corojo
Indian Tabac Cameroon Legend
Diesel Furete
Bohemian Brazilian
Bohemian Red
Cuban Parejo
Cuba Aliados
Puros Indios
Conga
Sherpa
Nestor Reserve Maduro
