Old Henry Robusto Review
Cigar: Old Henry Robusto
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Binder: Nicaraguan Filler: Nicaraguan Price: $117 a box of 25 from Holts ![]() Setting: Sun room. Halloween. 5:05pm. About 65 degrees out having a Barq's. Carving a pumpkin. Pre-light: Wrapper is medium brown and somewhat lumpy. Veins are medium to small. Cap cut easily. Smell from wrapper was very little, from the foot it had a bit of hay to it. ![]() First third: Cigar lit up easily. Draw is pretty good though the initial flavors are very mild and the smoke thin, not what I was expecting at all. After about a quarter inch a bunch of spice hit the palate but it's still pretty light on the flavor, which is tobacco with hints of leather. After about half an inch the smoke production started to pick up but sadly the flavor hasn't. The as is somewhat loose but seems to be holding past the inch mark. About an inch and half in the leather flavor started coming to the fore but the pepper and spice are starting to irritate the back of the throat. ![]() Second third: The leather and spice flavors remain. Body is picking up a bit into the upper range of medium. As does the irritation on the back of the throat. Other than that, not much going on. Cigar is burning well and hasn't required any touchups. Finish is actually somewhat pleasant on the tongue, just not on the throat. ![]() Final third: Well, more of the same. Flavors aren't bad, just not much happening. The irritation is lessening but the pepper is still there on the tongue. ![]() Final thoughts: Well, this is a pretty typical peppin blend. Reminds me a lot of the Pepin Legend series from CI. Lots of pepper but not a lot of flavor. It wasn't a horrible smoke, actually kinda enjoyed it minus the irritation, but don't think I'll go out of my way to have one again. Smoke again: Maybe if gifted like this one. Buy again: No Reccommend: To people who like Pepin spice. |

Re: Old Henry Robusto
Nice review, Steve. I've been curious about these, but never curious enough to buy any. Thanks to your review, I'm not curious anymore. I'll pass. Too one dimensional for me.

Re: Old Henry Robusto
Nice review. I think this about the only Pepin I have not tried or do not have.

Re: Old Henry Robusto
Nice review Steve. Your review was pretty much in line with what I found. The lanceros are a bit better but burn hot unless you smoke them very slowly. Just above the Fumadores and Legend on the Pepin scale.

Re: Old Henry Robusto
Nice cigar. They really open up after a few months in the humi.
BTW, I'm happy they were able to correct the harelip on that pumpkin. ![]()

Re: Old Henry Robusto
Thanks for the review. I always wondered about these as they are often billed as premiums. Looks like that pumpkin likes Ol' Henry.

Re: Old Henry Robusto
I found about the same with the robusto I smoked, but the corona seemed like a totally different cigar. I also had good luck with the toro. They definatly need some humi time though. Thanks for the review!

Re: Old Henry Robusto
Good review and pics. I have smoked these from a sampler I got from Holts a while ago. They are better than decent smokes for the price; they are not dog rockets; they are well made, and tasty. They do not compare to other of Pepin's more well known (and higher priced) cigars. I liked them but had put them in their proper perspective, and avoided disappointment in them. For me, even Pepin's lesser smokes are better than so called top shelf cigars made by others.

Re: Old Henry Robusto
I had a Robusto last night myself. I really enjoyed it actually. I bought the sampler pack from Holts and figured I'd start with the smallest one. I was actually surprised by how much I liked it.
I plan to have a couple more to make sure my taste buds weren't off that night. I think the CI Legends Pepin is much milder than the Old Henry. I followed it up with a 5 Vegas Miami and it easily trumped the Miami IMO. Anyways, your review inspired me to try them... so thanks! |
