Cigar Reviewed: La Vieja Habana Connecticut, Belicoso 6 x 54

I had never tried one of these cigars, and decided to light one up tonight and write up a review.

Construction: 21/25

Construction of this cigar was good. The Connecticut wrapper was smooth and soft to the touch throughout. It was well built, and slightly “veiny”, but nothing spectacular.

Burn: 22/25

The cigar lit very easily. The burn was even, with no touch-ups necessary throughout the entire smoke. I was actually pleasantly surprised on how well the burn was for an inexpensive cigar like this one. The ash was light gray, and was steady and firm. The initial burn lasted over 1.5”.

Draw: 23/25

The draw was superb from beginning to end. It was smooth and consistent throughout, and I did not have to work hard to get a mouthful of smoke. I was able to draw a nice white plume of smoke throughout the smoke.

Taste: 20/25

I knew this was a mild cigar, and it really was. It reminded me of a Macanudo Hyde Park I recently smoked. It was so mild that it was difficult to comprehend the taste. Eventually, I was able to get a hint of toasty and earthy flavors. It was very mild and easy on my palate. However, it left me desiring a little more.

Final Score: 86

I won a box of 20 on the devil site. I figured for $32 (including shipping) I might as well try it. Worst case scenario, if I didn’t like it, I can give it away to friends/co-workers. However, I actually liked this smoke. It is well worth the money for a very decent cigar.

Thanks for the review. I just won a box each of the Chateau Corona in Corojo wrapper and the Bomberos in Cameroon wrapper on the devil site. I got the coronas for $19 and the bomberos for $22. I can't wait to try them.

Nice review. I find "The Early Years" to be very good smokes with some time on them. And Drew Estate construction always seems to be top notch.
