Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino Sun Grown Torpedo Review

I went into my B&M and asked the clerk "Piglet" to suggest me a mild cigar not wrapped in Connecticut shade. He bolted immediately to this one, so I bought it and smoked it.

Never had a Cuesta-Rey and never really considered it before for some reason. Double band is very pretty as is the cigar. A medium brown color with a lightly toothy wrapper and nice torpedo shape. It looked great. As I've said before, I love a nice looking cigar with a handsome band.

Clipped it with the shop's Xikar. Excellent cut, perfect draw - a little firm but not hard. Just enough to know I'm smoking something. Toasted the foot with the tech torch, lit it, grabbed a cup of Montecristo coffee, and puffed away.

It produced a pleasurable amount of smoke and burned pretty well, even right out of the high humidity of a B&M humidor. Corrected it a couple of times because I'm anal about that, but construction was by all means perfect.

Piglet said it'd be "creamy and cinnamony." Man, he got that right. It was definitely mild (I was curious about a mild sun grown), but it was creamy and had a definite cinnamon presence. I loved it. It was sweet with a tad of spice. Went pretty well with the coffee. It was consistent from there to the last third, when the flavor began to die down and it moved toward the end-of-cigar bitterness. Re-clipped it, purged it, forged on for a few more good puffs, and let it go once it got unpleasant.

This cigar was great - I'll definitely smoke some more of these, but I have to say it wasn't $9.99 great. Perfect construction, delicious taste, pleasant aroma. Great mild cigar. I recommend this if you can find it for maybe $6.00, but beyond that price point it loses value to me.

You can always expect the construction on these to be top-notch as with any other Fuente product.

Yep, you gotta love it when a manufacturer cares enough to give you a product that works right these days.
