Saturday Noontime Football Nubbin - The NUB! Review

Vitals:

Brand: NUB
Build: Habano
Size: 4x64
Cost: 5.00
Drink: Samuel L. Jackson Adams Light

Backstory:

I was at my local B&M chit chatting with the fellaz and we walked into the humidor and amongst our conversation i brought up the "whats the deal with this NUB" question. The guy's face lit up and he said "Man these things are great, buy one right now, go home a smoke it, if you don't like it, i'll repay you for it"

So i ended up purchasing the nub (Among other sticks) and came home, grabbed a beer, sat down, and turned on the tube!

He highly reccomended it, so i figured... i'm a newb, i should take advice!

Prelude:
I always like to introduce the setting. Saturday afternoon, kind of cold outside (though im inside). Watching Ohio state play Northwestern....

NOTE - I am not an Ohio state fan - DISCLAIMER!

Lets check this little buddy out:
The pre-lit aroma is grand. After i cut it, i drew it a couple of times just to see what i was getting myself into. The draw made my mouth water. it was spicey and bittersweet. And seemed as if the draw was going to be big and bold!!!

Examining the form:
Solid construction, soft exterior, consistent. These are the words that come to mind when describing "Le Nub". It's going to be a nice little smoke. And, as per my reading, this nubby is supposed to capture the essence of the cigar's "good part".

The Starting Grid:
AND WE'RE OFF!! This thing starts off a little smoother than expected. The draw is great, a bit loose, but its a 64 Gauge cigar, We can deal, right?

Re: Saturday Noontime Football Nubbin - The NUB!

I cut very even!!!

Forging On!!!:

Now we get about a half inch to an inch in. And, i begin to see what they are talking/marketing about. IT starts up, it heats up, and it spices up with a savory taste and even more tantilizing aroma. My mouth was watering htis entire smoke!!

The beer may have been wrong, maybe a killians, or a boddingtons, but not terrible! ol' Sammy!

The mellow middle:

OK, the ash is growing, and i am settign it down more ften that usual. The cigars flavor is there, but it's mellowed out just a bit. Its a very pleasant change and i'm anticipating a "spice it up soon" ending.

Short Game, good plays

As predicted, we are starting to heat back up the spice that we started off with. I have not ashed it, but the ember is growing closer ot the tip. The flavor is emmense, and THIS THING IS AWESOME!

The end of an era... a short era:

Total smoke time was a little over an hour. Surprising for such a small pug nub. The flavor has been carrying well, and the draw is nice and open, really letting some heat in, probably due to the large RG. If you mouth it just the right way you will reap all the benefits!

THE END

Synopsis:

The cigar never let me down on flavor, it was such a great taste and arome. I really enjoyed the draw even though it was a little loose. I was also surprised at how long it took to smoke, pleasantly surprised. This cigar is deffinitely one that i will add to the humi.

Birdies:

1. Taste is great

2. Aroma is a 10

3. Starts hot, mellows out, finished hot

4. Huge RG is fun to hold!

Bogies:

1. Draw a little loose

2. Wish it was larger (hehe)

3. Sam Adams not a good choice (user error)

Re: Saturday Noontime Football Nubbin - The NUB!

Awesome pics! I haven't been able to get my hands on a Nub yet. But my friend is gonna bring me a few smokes when he comes home for Thanksgiving. Hopefully I will enjoy the Nub as much as you did. I think if I had a choice on a Sam Adams, I'd probably try the Black Lager or the Cream Stout. It seems that they always bring out more flavor in all the cigars I've had.

But again, excellent post, and awesome pics.

Just not my flavor profile I guess. When I smoked them my thought was, "if this is the sweet spot then I don't want to find it in any other cigar".

thanks for the kind words.

And yes, a creamier beer would maybe help. I really think boddi's would have been nice!!
