Arturo Fuente Short Story aka "A Love Story" Review

Shape: Perfecto
Wrapper: Cameroon
Filler: Dominican Republic
Binder: Dominican Republic

So I was in the Rice Village in Houston, and a friend and I were just walking around and taking a break from the programming world. I went to the Briar Shoppe, and I got myself an A. Fuente Short Story. It was my first, so I was hoping for good things.....
Many things about this cigar were a first for me so, I will note them as I go on.

The smell, I have never smelled anything like it before. The smell is unique. Not the most pleasant smell, but a scent of sweetness is obvious.

The boyd, it's beautiful, perfect brown. A very nice wrap and of course the tip, I'm not sure what the tip is called, but according to the lady at the store, it's made for a perfect light.

The pre light draw is very tasty. The cigar leaves a sweetness on my lips just looks promising. I'm not sure if it's the look, the name, or the size which makes me feel like the smoke time is in my hands. I can make it last as long or as little as I want to.

The initial light was great! Partly because of the tip, and partly because I borrowed the torch at the store to light it. It was my first torch experience, and it was great. But I tell you, at some point I felt like I tasted a pepperoni! Kind of odd. Now I'm a muslim and I've never had pork, but I've had those beef pepperonies and I kinda felt like I just got that, maybe it was the type of spice that I felt. Has it ever happened to anyone else, a meat flavor in a cigar?

As I told you I had this cigar while walking around the Rice Village, so sorry if some of these pics are bad, but I just had a wonderful experience with this cigar. I would buy a box of it, if I just fel like it was time for such a thing.

Back to the story, the flavor is still lovely, and still if I lick my lips I can taste some sweetness. MY friend bought me a cup of coffee, but after a sip I realized that all I want right now is this cigar. I could still taste spices and sweetness.

As I told you the spice was already very visible and obvious, but right now I feel like all I have is spice, it's the dominent flavor for sure, no more sweetness on the lips.

I kept at it till the end. It's very smooth, vert soft with a full spice flavor, all the way to the end. I would smoke it anytime, anywhere. The flavor kept at it to the very end.

Great review, I had my first one this past week and had a very similar experience. This is on the "buy again" list!.

Thanks for the review. It's always fun to read the thoughts of a person trying a stick for the first time. This may be sacriledge, but I once heard LFD makes a cigar almost exactly the same for a little less $. I like almost anything by Fuente, but I wonder if anyone has ever heard this.

Not sure what you mean. The cigars are made the same but the blend is totally different. I have never had a Fuente cigar taste like LFD. But everyone has different taste buds.

Is that for real??? Never heard of the Fuente Love Story. Have you got any more info, where you saw / heard about it...
I'm always interested in such things, especially if they are un-obtainable!

Sounds like you're talking about the La Flor Dominicana El Jocko.

They're pretty much the same shape but totally different blend-wise. El Jocko's and Short Stories are both awesome smokes, however.

Re: Arturo Fuente Short Story aka "A Love Story"

Nice review.

I like the Short Story's a bunch. I've always found them to have a flavor kind of like peanut butter. Smooth, not harsh, kind of a nutty taste.

On another note, everytime I buy a bunch of these, if I take them out of the cellophane to store them, the have a tendancy to unravel. Maybe it's the figurado shape. I keep them in the wrapper now.

Re: Arturo Fuente Short Story aka "A Love Story"

the short story and the love story are two completely different cigars. they are both made from the same mold and share similar shapes but not anything close in the blends. the love story is an opus shaped prefecto and is very limited.

the short story was the cigar that started me on the way and is still something i tell other newbies to start with.
