Sherpa 2002... The PERFECT dessert!

Txmatt took me by surprise last night, via uniformed government messenger...

The snow was flying... The wind was blowing... And we managed to finish dinner before the power went out.

Under such dire circumstances, I did what ANY sane person would do... I reached for a cigar!

In this case, it was A Sherpa 2002 robusto that arrived by surprise, compliments of txmatt... And what a treat it was!!!

My palate is in its comfort zone in the medium range, and the Sherpa was right on target.

BURN -- Fairly slow, and reliably steady, without correction.

FLAVOR -- Think of a hot fudge sundae with coffee on the side.

LAP TIME -- 35 minutes, more or less.

OVERALL -- Ever feel like skipping the dinner, and getting on with the dessert? If so, this is the stick for you!!!

Thanks, Tex!... I needed that!!!

The flavor unique to these I notice sometimes is peanut, and of course a hot fudge sundae is topped with peanuts!! Note I think all Sharpas have that 2002 on the label, but those have been in my humidor since at least last June.

Glad you enjoyed it, I believe a review from Da Klugs (back when he used to review cigars and smoke domestics ) convinced me to buy my first bundle of them..

Re: Sherpa 2002... The PERFECT dessert!

TXmatt...I havent smoked this bad boy yet. With that said...tastes do change alot in a short period of time. Many smokes I loved 4 months ago I can barely smoke now. Once you have tasted of the forbidden leaf its all down hill from there. Alot of people think its mere snobbery to shun the NC. IM not there yet but I do understand. My ole stand by Gerkha Legend is great but doesnt taste like it once did. If Da Klugs messes with you a bit, Im sure he does it in jest. He knows better than most the journey of the newb. Personally I cant wait to sample each and every gift you gave me. Im far from over with the NC. My humi is full of NC. Again I am truely greatful for the gifts.

TX,

As you already know, your bomb blasted me over the edge, and I took the plunge on a box of Sherpa churchills.

I'm beginning to understand why you've gained a reputation for finding the best values!

Re: Sherpa 2002... The PERFECT dessert!

Well I got to try this cigar tonight. For one reason or another the wrapper came apart on me. I didnt pick at it nor could I repair it so I just smoked it the best I could. But believe it or not with all the cracking it smoked fairly even. I didnt get the taste of peanut but I did enjoy a nice semisweet mellow taste. I did get faint hints of Gurkha and Torano themes. Despite the obvious construction issues I really did enjoy the smoke. If it didnt crack I would consider it an 83/100. Its a great value smoke. I would certainly give this another try.

Re: Sherpa 2002... The PERFECT dessert!

I was suprised by this little cigar as well. I had read mixed reviews saying they did not have much flavor. But I found it to be nutty with light spice anc cocoa flavors. A very mellow smoke. Mine got a little peppery and hot at the end, but that may have been because I tried to smoke it right down th the nub. It looks like I have another Daily Smoke to add the the growing rotation!!!

Alp,

You nailed it with the "very mellow" description, and particularly when it's aged as txmatt seems to be able to do them!

NOPE!! She ain't no heavy... And NOPE!! She ain't no air-head... She's just mellow!

NOW THEN... When the box arrives next week, I intend to pluck a couple, then take the rest out into a coolerdor in the barn loft (60-degrees), and try to forget where I put them for a few months... Then pluck a couple more out in May, store them in the Refrigador (55 degrees) over the summer... Then pluck a couple more out in October, and transfer the rest back up to the loft.

Who knows! By this time next year, I may actually have a fiver left!!!

Why not by a fiver or two and forget about the bundle. They are cheap enough where you should be able to do that.

Alp,

Just trying to figure out how txmatt is able to age them for so long... Only way I can HOPE to do that is to forget where they are!!!

Ahh well... Thinking about stashing everything everywhere, visiting my doctor, and having him give me something to induce amnesia.

Just start a Coolerdor for things that you want to keep off limits for a while. Keep it hidden away. Pick up a fiver or a Gurkha Sampler with a few Sherpa smokes in it t hold you over for a while. It is not all that tough. I think you can do it!!!

I haven't smoked one in a very long time, but I do remember thinking they tasted strongly like peanuts. The aroma was also strange, didn't do much for me.
