Flor De Oliva Mini Torpedo Review

FDO Sumatra Toro and FDO Gold Torpedo are my favorite inexpensive cigars to date. I purchased a bundle of FDO Mini Torpedoes at auction for about $1.20 a stick. decided to write a review. My first.

Size: 5 x 52

Wrapper: Sumatra,

Filler: Mixture of Dominican & Nicaraguan long filler
Construction: Firm to touch, no lumps, no patches, no large veins.

Time in Humidor: 3 months

Pre light draw: very good, a slight sweetness, I assume artificial, but nice.

Foot toasted very consistently with torch lighter, even glow, no dark spots.

First puff: easy draw, lots of smoke, slight pepper on the tongue more through the nose but not overpowering. Good tobacco flavor.

First third: pepper diminishes but ocasionally reappears, creamy tobacco flavor.

Middle: pepper disappears, slightly stronger tobacco flavor no harshness.

Last third: Flavor has a hint of leather, no harshness, a little hot at the end.

The Burn: consistent and even, nice white ash, I smoked this cigar slowly and carefully for over an hour: to the nub using a toothpick. The ash fell off twice: the first time a half an inch before the band, the second with an inch left. Should of had a camera handy.

This is a not very complex cigar. I would say it is more mild than medium, but an excellent value for a very consistent smoke.

Re: Flor De Oliva Mini Torpedo

Nice review. I agree that these seem to be one dimensional.

Thanks for the review! I just picked up a 5 pack of these from the devil site for $5. Can these be smoked relatively fresh? I was gonna try one in a couple weeks and try and see if it's bundle/coolidor worthy.

Re: Flor De Oliva Mini Torpedo

You probably want to give it just a little while. Most places ship a little too humid so the sticks don't get too dry during their trip.

Also the FDO's make great yard gars.

Edit: I see you said you were gonna wait a couple of weeks. That should be fine.

Re: Flor De Oliva Mini Torpedo

Thanks for the review. I didn't remember seeing this size available, so I looked around and it seems to be called the Petit Torpedo at a few sites including:
http://www.famous-smoke.com/cigars/s...cfm/inum/19174

Seems like it's something only available in the Original (natural) line, and not the other 3 lines. Neat shape though, looks nice.
