Macanudo 1968 -- A true Mac Daddy Review

Vitals:

Brand: Macanudo
Build: 1968
Size: Robusto
Cost: 8.50
Drink: h2o

Backstory:

I recently have taken advantage of the special offer from Macanudo. The deal is 3 cigars for 9.00 shipped, so technically this cigar cost me 3 bucks.

I was interested to get down to one but I had so many other cigars that I “needed” to try first that were recommended to me. But you know what, I figured that I need to give this Mac-daddy a try tonight. I read that it is a very smooth cigar, and it had such a great feel in and out of the cello.

First glance:
The cigar at first glance has a nice exterior. It’s got a very consistent smooth exterior. Hardly any veins and the cigar is in perfect round. The stick also shows of a shiny oily gleam that looks delicious and tasty.

Body Lines:
I think the aesthetic of a cigar is something that also adds to the intimacy. I am a huge fan of very traditional old style cigar bands, and the Macanudo 1968 has quite a stylish and elegant raised print band. It makes it look “more mature” and “sophisticated”.

Cut it up:
The cut was clean and crisp. I have been cutting my cigars with a smaller chop this past week and I have had great luck with it. Maybe I usually chop too much… NOT ANYMORE!!

All Lit up:
At first smoke, there is a smooth draw. The burn starts out great and even. The smoke engulfs your face as you exhale and the draw feels satisfying and full of smoke. Full chewy smoke, the kind you can write home about…. But write about how smooth it is.

Further ventures:
Even at over an inch of burn. The cigar is still mellow yet full of flavor. The cigar is not hot whatsoever, it could be because I have kept the ash on this far, but I don’t predict that it would really heat up that much if I dropped the ash.

The cigar is smooth, consistent, and the aroma of the burning wrapper makes your nose tingle… a very rich aroma!

Making strides:
As we make it further down the tube… I see that the aroma is still rich and strong… and now the cigar is. Not crazy gurkha strong, but rich and smooth, the form, matched with the flavor is quite an intimate experience.

I dropped the ash and it was incredibly even.. just look at this pic,…. Unbelievable.

HERF-A-BOB

Happy ending:
Again, the smoke has never really gotten that hot… it’s a little spicier than it was 10 mins ago, but it’s still pleasant and leathery/chocolaty.

The summary:
The smoke was everything I look for in a cigar except for a very straightforward and predictable experience. The smoke was 1 sided, DELICIOUS… but one sided. It was not a complex smoke, but again, it was pleasure-full. The aroma was more overpowering than the draw, I will definitely enjoy the others, this would be a great “After brunch” cigar.

CLIFFS:
1. smooth and mellow
2. Aroma is powerful
3. flavor is not dynamic
4. built well, very well
5. satisfying and intimate

Re: Macanudo 1968 -- A true Mac Daddy

I was given one of these a few weeks back by the local B & M owner, wanting an opinion. Mine was the larger Churchill size. A thoroughly enjoyable cigar for the money they want for them. I agree, they are a smooth solid smoke, rich & creamy.

Thanks for the review.
