Maria Guerrero Corona Review

The other day I got to smoke a Maria Guerrero Corona.

Wrapper Type: Cameroon
Origin: Honduras

Story: I had just got home from school and was going to work on a research paper. My girlfriend and I decide to take a little walk to enjoy the day and for me to smoke a cigar. I was looking forward to this cigar as the guy in the shop said it was a very good smoke and it had been in the humidor for about 2 weeks.

The cut: To cut the cigar I had just got a punch for my keychain and I wanted to see what it was all about so I went with that.

Pre-light draw: The pre light draw was nice and smooth. The flavor from that was nice and rich.

The light: I lit it with some matches, took a little longer than normal as I was out side.

The smoke: As we started our walk, my first thoughts of the cigar were not very impressive. As we walked I found my self having a hard time to keep it lit and burning even. The flavor of the cigar was not very good either. It is hard to give a good description on the cigar as each draw the flavor seemed to change. It seemed as if every draw had a different unique flavor. Although from what I could tell the cigar seemed to be a little harsher than I had expected. The burn was very very uneven. After walking for about 40 minutes, I had done more sucking on this cigar than what goes on in a whore house and decide to call it quits after making it past the half way point.

The conclusion: I was unhappy with this cigar. The draw was tight and inconsistent. I was wondering what might have cause this and though about the conditions. It was in the humidor that was reading 67%-70% the whole time. The semi-cold weather along with a very slight breeze? I have no idea what might have cause this problem. Every other cigar out of the humidor I have not had this problem using a punch. Maybe after I get through the other 50+ cigars on my list I will revisit this one.

Re: Maria Guerrero Corona

Thanks for the review.

Before you completely write off the Maria Guerrero brand, buy a couple more and put them in your humidor and let them rest for about a month. From what I understand from your post, the B&M only had them in their humidor for about two weeks. (Is that correct or did you mean you had them in yours for two weeks?)

The other thing to consider is that this may not be a good cigar to take a walk with. It may be one that's better if you're sitting and relaxing.

Re: Maria Guerrero Corona

I was about to review this cigar today but i saw this thread. Ill add my noobie comments.

Great looking cigar. Mine was 56x6. Felt great to hold. Draw wasnt bad and i didnt really have the burn issues detailed here, BUT i have to say that i was not impressed with this cigar. It was abit grassy for my taste. It seemed really average to me.. Mine had been in the humi for 2 months before i smoked it.

Re: Maria Guerrero Corona

These had a good following a few years ago here. The few that I've smoked I've enjoyed. I don't recall any burn or draw issues that the OP indicated.

I do remember a sour apple almost jolly rancherish note on the cigars.

Macjoe had a good suggestion of keeping one in your humidor for awhile then enjoy in a calm relaxed environment.

I've had many cigars that would have been better if I weren't walking on a windy day :]

Oh i will try one again I'm sure. It was in my humidor for about 2 weeks, when I got it there were about 6 left in the box. I'm not sure what the issue was there were many things out of the norm that could have effected it. I'm starting to learn and see just how sensitive these things are.

Re: Maria Guerrero Corona

Maria was one of my first cigars. I can't even remember the taste or aroma but it was recommended to me when I inquired about a cigar with a nice aroma.

I am sorry your experience wasn't as enjoyable as you hoped.
