Menendez y Garcia Corona Grande Review
I picked these up on a whim as they were touted as "very creamy and mild". I have been looking for a cigar that is just that for my morning smoke that will compliment a cup of coffee. Here is what I found after a week of settleing time and then a few days of dryboxing:
This hefty corona has a rather leathery look to it and the natural wrapper is light cocoa brown and has no tooth at all. Just smooth and a bit glossy. The band is unique looking in both shape and color. I have to say that this band selection made this cigar look "cheap" to me...but whats in a band?
I punch cut the head as I normally do and I noticed it was rather tough and stiff. Upon lighting it I found the draw tight right away and this lasted throughout the smoke. With an accompanying cup of regular coffee, the flavor profile was most certainly creamy. I could see that this cigar was blended to offer the lovers of creamy cigars every bit of what they wanted... for me it was indeed creamy but only creamy. It was otherwise a rather diminsionless flavor profile. Very little spice or sweet earthiness that I mistakenly assumed it might have. The flavor became a bit tireing after some time and I could not help but feel that there was something missing from the blend. The burn was average, ash was even, solid and grey and overall it seemed fairly well constructed.
Even after the dryboxing I think it may still have been a bit wet. The biggest drawbacks to the Menendez y Garcia were the tight draw and lack of complexity. I would give it a C+ or maybe a B- because some may appreciate this cigar more than I. Hope my next one is not as tight and I will choose my beverage more carefully to compensate for the flavor profile.
After this review I must admit that this cigar is advertised fairly and somewhat accuratly. I just assumed a bit much.
Enjoy.
